According to this article, New Orleans ranks #40 in the US for violent crime, which includes homicides, armed robbery, carjackings, etc.

Here's the top 10:
1. Memphis, TN.
2. Monroe, LA.
3. Anchorage, AK.
4. Pine Bluff, AR.
5. Detroit, MI.
6. Danville, IL.
7. Albany, GA.
8. Albuquerque, NM.
9. Alexandria, LA.
10. Little Rock, AR.

Hyperbole? What do you mean?

Just days ago there was a guy gunned down at 6am while he was waiting on a ride to go to work.

Oh, okay. let's act like this was a random act of violence & the shooters weren't outside waiting to shoot this guy as soon as he comes outside.

There are LOTS of recent stories you can use to say New Orleans crime is OOC, it’s more unsafe than other cities, etc., but that’s not one of them

You do realize that there is serious lag time with data like this, right?

Agreed & it is completely out of control.
Just find it ironic that was the response to "if you believe the hyperbole.."

Agreed. But objectively speaking, crime is out of control all over this country because of our left-leaning policies at the current time. Major cities all over this country are unfortunately going through the same spike. I'd bet the list is almost the same, but with crimes per 100K rising proportionately across America's largest cities.

Are there any success stories right now?

Downtown has entire tent cities undisturbed and growing.

The one on Tchoup is a full on camp ground at this point. Just waiting for some bum high on whatever to knock over one of those fires and light the whole thing on fire. Couldn't imagine what is going through a tourist's head when they see that.

like a lot of petty crime

A petty crime is jaywalking with no cars around.

Crimes that causes changes in behavior, like locking your car the second you get in. Getting out if your car turning it off grabbing your kids putting them inside just to unlock the gate to your driveway so some jack arse doesn’t drive off with your kids are crimes against society.

Pointing out that the it was a poorly executed hit is somehow denying crime is bad in the city.

Like pointing out the guy on Webster left his car to get stolen is somehow denying there is a carjacking problem.

Nope, just pointing out the response to "don't believe the hyperbole" was more hyperbole. Crime is out of control

Does your article account for cases where charges aren’t filed or are dropped completely?

Does it account for crimes unreported?

I’ve spent time in some sketchy places over the last year: St Louis, Detroit, Cleveland, Memphis, Albuquerque, etc.

What I notice is that when you are in ANY of those places where tourists would be welcome, there is a police presence that provides a feeling of safety…even in Detroit. Memphis was probably the worst. The national perception of Cleveland and Detroit is sticking from 10 years ago and beyond. Those places have made a huge effort to clean up downtown areas. I’d be willing to bet that non-biased people could visit, feel pleasantly surprised, and get some sense of safety. I don’t think that’s the case in NOLA.

So, if true, this makes it ok?

Because we all know stray bullets NEVER hurt innocents.

I swear, the apologists who still try and defend Nola at this point are sad.

You sound like you are making excuses for the guy who was attacked.

He was just a good boy headed to his job. Didndu nothing. Probably works at an investment firm.

Yeah right, calling out the shooting is a character testimonial for all those involved.

I've said twice now that crime is out of control in Nola. I'm in no way defending it. I was simply laughing at the fact that you responded to a post talking about hyperbole with "get your head out of your arse.... here's more hyperbole".

I'm not moving to the northshore or any of that though. Would have been gone a long time ago, but ties that bind.

Still talking 13 years or so at this point.
