The breweries and local eats make up for having your car broken into and having to watch your 6 like you are in a war zone.

It’s a safe city other than the every night car break ins and car jackings lol

WDSU on mother with new born in back seat who was almost carjacked on I-10

"You shouldn't have to navigate your own city like a war zone. It's un-American,” Taylor said. “The crime is out of control and it's terrifying. At this point, having to use the same tactics in an American city that you use in Iraq and Afghanistan simply to navigate through the city it's scary and I'm not the only mom feeling this way."

"So, as he comes up he's close and he's pretty aggressive trying to get the car door open makes eye contact with me he's still trying to get it open a couple times," Taylor said.

Taylor said she picked up her gun.

“It’s locked and loaded," she recalled saying.

Taylor said she didn't fire but was ready to. She said the man eventually ran off. Taylor said what also has her on edge is police classified the crime as a disturbance.

If you listen to the hyperbole, you’d think anyone who walks down any street at any time in any place is going to get gunned down. This is simply not true.

Dude, respectfully: get your head out of your arse. Just days ago there was a guy gunned down at 6am while he was waiting on a ride to go to work.

You sound just like the dumb broad who was just carjacked uptown who lamented the fact that these “kids” (her words not mine) just need love and a tender touch from a parent.

frick that. It is every bit as bad as people think it is, and what is being reported is less than what’s actually happening.

That's one way to frame what happened.

Don't be mean to ft. He's from Brusly and just moved to the big city last summer. Give him about 6 months or a mugging or two and he will be in the screw nola camp with the rest of us

For those that live in the New Orleans metro area, my question basically is, is it really that bad

Yes. Maybe worse than you’ve seen.

Car breakins and drive through murder scenes on your way home have become an unsurprising event in life now.

The police department asks people to leave their doors unlocked and their cars empty so the criminals won’t smash your windows.

The interstate system has been stopped multiple times because of murders.

Downtown has entire tent cities undisturbed and growing.

The DA isn’t even prosecuting criminals anymore and is letting them back on the streets in days regardless of crime.

It’s bad. And it’s going to get worse.

They’re much more unsafe than they used to be. Being safer because you might get jumped and carjacked instead of murdered isn’t something I’d celebrate.

There have been plenty of car jacking and murders in broad daylight lately. It’s not exaggerated and it’s not hidden in the night anymore

I spoke to a NOPD Lt this morning. He said they are now carjacking people driving expensive cars. Mercedes, Range Rovers, BMW, etc are the cars now targeted. If they see a single woman or a woman with kids in the back in a high end car then they really target them. He said maybe 10% is being reported in the news.

lived uptown for about 5 years and moved less than a year ago. My neighbors were attorneys, doctors, and professionals. I never felt unsafe at all, but our cars were often broken into. The doctors nanny had her 4Runner stolen once. That kind of stuff. I honestly can’t tell you why we felt safe even though this stuff was going on around us. It’s just how it is.

That’s fricking pathetic

Seriously… the fact that good, hard working people have to live like this…. It just blows my mind

There’s a lot of blame to go around for this too.. the dems, the liberals, the black families without father figures, the white libs who promote and turn a blind eye to this shite, etc

There are no easy solutions and until certain communities start holding these thugs accountable, nothing will fricking change.

So many good people have had their lives altered behind the crime here…. It really is sad

New Orleans is the least desirable city in the world right now. By far. I'm not joking.

I live in the Florida panhandle. My kids sometimes forget to close the garage door at night, no issues. Doors unlocked at night, no issues. Toys and bikes in the front yard, no issues.

I can’t fathom living in a place where living scared is acceptable.
