Ryan Mallet also died in the Ocean. That's why I don't FA with it.

Say what you want about Cosby as Cosby off screen. On screen Cos was a father and a husband who NEVER played the fool.

Best for me was when Theo loses his girlfriend and Cliff says " I have a way for you to never lose a girlfriend again."

You take a jar of peanut butter, some honey, soy sauce, rice krispies and potato chips, mix is all together, now smear it all over your face because this is important....Theo does it.

Now, repeat after me, "I will pay attention to my woman"

With all that on his face and repeating it, he finally says, "I think I get it now"

Wait. Was that ever said in the show, that the oldest two weren't his?

No, of course not. He was just being funny.

Now, this being a Louisiana-based board, I do find it interesting that both older daughters on The Cosby Show were played by Creole actresses. And the oldest one, Sondra (played by Sabrina Le Beauf) married a character named Tibideaux.

I know there are black people out there that are great swimmers, but I've never understood why so many suck at swimming and why black people drown so frequently?

I’m black, and the only swimmers in my family are myself and my dad. I didn’t learn until I was an adult, and my dad served in the Navy.

Neither my wife nor my extended family can swim. I have no explanation.

I don't know if any of you have ever been in a rip current but it is pretty damn scary. I was caught in one years ago when down at the Gulf of America.

Too many people seem to have to learn firsthand. They're dangerous, and don't get the respect they deserve.

hough the show was about a black family, the comedy and issues generally transcended race. A white family could (and did) laugh their asses off at the humor.

Same deal with Fresh Prince. Great shows

Damn! Loved his "Raptor" character on The Resident.

This. Underrated show. Sucks to die of an accidental so young.

Correct me if I’m wrong. But aren’t black people’s bodies naturally more dense thus making them less buoyant? I’ve always heard this is why swimming and treading water is more difficult for them.

LS - I feel I can share this story with you (and the thread) - I have at least once here.

Flashback: Boy Scout Summer Camp - not to date myself, but a long effing time ago - a troop from New Roads came to our camp for the first time - all black troop. They were a menace at the waterfront. They had no strong swimmers, only a couple of competent swimmers. They could not row boats or canoe to save their lives. They had an entry in the "in and out" canoe race (they blow a whistle at the shore and both canoers have to get out of the canoe and get back in) and to this day, I have no idea how they didn't have someone die out there. For my part, my partner and I came in second, losing to a boat with siblings who were varsity defensive tackles. So, the New Roads boat is way, way last. They couldn't land the boat back at the shore. They would approach the shore and then arc away. Approach again? Arc away. A group of us had to wade out and haul it back to shore.

It was the damnedest thing I ever saw.

Well that sucks, seems like us mid-lifers grew up in the Cosby household. If you did you’ll get the reference immediately. RIP.

I also learned a life lesson along with Theo when Cockroach was nice enough to give Theo the opportunity to go to the Dance Mania taping when only one of them could go. Theo didn't take it, initially, kept offering it back to Cockroach, then got mad when Cockroach took it.

I always offer to pick up the check at dinner. If the other person says "no, I got it", I'll offer once more. If they then say, again, "no. I have it"...then it's yours! I offered twice to pay for your dinner.
