No police officers at any station from 3-7 a.m.

ALL thefts, harassment, criminal mischief, burglary alarms, etc. at any time will be handled by an automated machine.

Let's see how this works out for them.

LINK

quote:

BREAKING: Pittsburgh police will no longer respond to certain calls & will instead be redirecting people to a telephone unit.

Those crimes include thefts, harassment, criminal mischief, burglary alarms, etc.

Additionally, there were be only 20 police officers patrolling the ENTIRE CITY from 3AM-7AM. This comes amidst staffing shortages.

ETA: To the "staffing shortage" issue, in the video they say Pittsburgh has 740 officers on the payroll, but only 20 will be working between 3-7 a.m.

That telephone unit is a direct line to a social worker.

May not be best to publicly announce which crimes you won't be responding to.

Listen, if you're being harassed or stolen from, it can wait until regular bankers hours.

In reality, a lot of jurisdictions operate like this unofficially.

Someone breaks into your house? Police will be there in a couple of hours.

“If the US got an enema, the hose would be stuck in Pittsburgh” is now [true] / false.

Well in this case, sounds like the police will never come. It will all be handled by an automated machine, including the filing of the police report.

Did a week long training in Pittsburgh back some time around 2007 or so. One day after the class finished, I drove into Pittsburgh to find some food. Not one single business was open downtown. A culinary school was letting out and all the students were catching the bus and leaving. Finally found a pub near the baseball stadium. Next day, two guys from Pittsburgh were shocked I went into Pittsburgh after dark.

They doing this now during working hours. I called their main number several times and no one picks up. You have to call 911 to report a crime. Even then, you lucky if they show up within 12 hours.

Your first mistake was looking by PNC for food. You needed to go over to the Strip District, just east of downtown. That's where the food scene in Pittsburgh is centered.

And Pittsburgh is a very underrated food town.

Lived there for 5 years. Much safer than nola.

Now you go to the rock bottoms and walk in the wrong bar. That's a diff story.

Downtown shuts down after 6pm. PNC park is on the Northside. Nobody really lives downtown or by the stadiums on the northside. A few lofts bout it. And heinz ketchup. Southside and mt washington is the closest to downtown with action.
