My problem is with Internet and Sling we'd be spending $110 for service without a DVR and we spend $125 for cable/internet.
Seems like a wash for me to have DVR included.

They don't prosecute it because the costs would make it uneconomical.

I'm a cord cutter, but it's kinda funny to say that you aren't mooching off of anyone, that someone should do their homework because there's this free service that lets you watch more stuff than anyone with a cable subscription.
As if piracy isn't just another form of mooching.
It's even more mooching than sharing passwords.

I'm on the cusp of millennial/gen-x (1983) and I have 3 kids.
I cut cable well before the trend was to do so (4-5 years ago) and haven't looked back. My 2 daughters (5 and 6) would never prefer cable with commercials and having to wait for a specific time over the on demand nature and selection of Hulu and Netflix. You throw Youtube kids stuff and amazon VOD in the mix and I don't see us ever going back.
It's an old an dated model and the sooner cable companies realize this the better for them. Otherwise they will be rendered obsolete once big boys like ESPN and AMC offer their service broadband only. How can they be so naieve?

Agreed.
The 50 and up crowd are the ones still paying for cable because they don't know any better.
It's only gonna get worse as they get older and die/lose their eye sight.

Too be fair though, one element that a lot of people miss is that the reality of the situation is this:
"You gotta buy my super expensive BBQ pit, three racks of ribs, and bread, but we will throw in OJ, milk, pencils, pantyhose, aspirin, and gum. But it will cost you 3 times what I charge you to get all that seperately."
You don't want ala carte programming. You'll spend 90% what you pay now to get 10% of the channels you get, resulting in no practical change to your bill but will change the industry so no risks or new innovative channels would be invested in.

Sure, all that sounds good in theory.
What you don't realize is that you think you're paying for all these crap channels...you're really not. You're really paying for the major networks. The rest of the crap channels make up a small % of content costs for a cable provider.
I think you'd be severely disappointed if you thought you were going to save a bundle by only having to pay for the major content providers channels. That's really most of what you're paying for now.

Until this thread, I didn't realize the amount of stealing taking place by cord cutters. Pretty sad for anyone to justify it. Kind of hints at where our society is headed.

When my kids get older, I will consider cutting cable if the decrease in cost is justifiable. Right now...I just don't see me saving $30/month to be worth it.

Sure the major channels suck up most of the cost. But you still have to pay for disney, fox news, tnt. usa - that I would never watch. a la carte is the model consumers want. I would wager that consumers probably watch less than 10 channels, probably closer to 3-4. Even at $6/channel that is $25 vs $150.
