Oh I'm definitely mooching off someone. That's a real big reason why I figured I could do it...I had a friend nice enough to let me have his login info. Without that, I'd probably have a hard time watching ESPN and the MLB playoffs...which is really all I've used it for to this point.

Millennials generally pass off free accounts to one another. Some consider that mooching. Others consider that smart

How are cord cutters mooching? I am out of the loop. Are they using the sling box and using their parents' cable?

Friend pays for netflix, gives all of their friends the account. Definitely not "mooching," especially when the companies are allowing it

No shite. children's programming on Hulu and Netflix BLOW cable away. Add an occasional redbox or trip to the theater and all my kids' video entertainment needs are better than met.

Definitely unethical, unless it is truly allowed, as you say.

Netflix has a device limit for simultaneous viewing. 3 devices is standard. You can pay for more I believe.

I wish spotify would allow this. My gf and I at the gym piss each other off until I play a playlist off line.

If ESPN will allow me to just subscribe VIA Apple TV, I'd cut the cable out.

I have a feeling it's coming in the next few years

Sling TV doesn't have an a la carte ESPN package?

The companies aren't dumb. They know it happens all the time. And they allow it. Mainly because they know that without PW sharing, a lot of the users consuming their product wouldn't pay for it. The hope is that when that one friend stops paying for it, the consumer who wouldn't have paid for it before will pay for it now.

I'm waiting for a competitor to come along and do this...spotify would struggle

I'll try and find the link but I know for a Fact HBO exec said they didn't mind HBOGo accounts being shared between parents and their kids at college for example b/c it would help spread programming and people would sign up themselves.

However, I can see that being a short-term view as HBOGo has exploded in popularity since GOT and True Detective in last 2 years.

Starting a family is what inspired me to finally cut the cord. The cable industry is finished.

It's not allowed. It's in the T&C for all of these products. I'm not standing on my moral pedestal. I'm just not a fan of somebody else paying for me to use a product that I use and can afford to pay for. What makes me so special that I don't have to pay and they do?

My wife is a counterpoint though. She hates that we're using my father's Watch ESPN password. She says it's a slippery slope and doesn't see how it's not theft.

I'm one of the people(probably not a minority) who would eagerly pay 50% more(up to $15 a month or so) if they would start paying artists better and get all the labels on board. There's still a gap in using a music service.

Yet they could easily put an end to it if they wanted to. It's definitely allowed.

If I make a law saying that stealing is illegal, but never prosecute anyone for stealing, is stealing really illegal?

well I actually pay my friend for being able to use his watchESPN account. So its more like we split the cost vs straight mooching. Granted I just give him drugs, but he is cool with the arrangement.
