Here is a quote from Barry Gibb regarding the meaning of the song....

quote:

There was a lot of psychedelia and the idea that if you wrote something, even if it sounded ridiculous, somebody would find the meaning for it, and that was the truth

Fun fact: While living in Miami, the Brothers Gibb drove over a metal grated drawbridge and picking up on the rhythmic sounds the car's tires made, they were able to write the song " Jive Talkng" within minutes after getting back home to their studio.

Another Fun Fact: The song Fannie Be Tender was named for their housekeeper, Fannie, in Miami, although it was not written specifically about her.

They also didn’t know jive meant bullshitting until it was pointed out and had to change the lyrics to go along with a bullshitter

From an under appreciated album with the added bonus of a nekkid woman on the cover.

Only Barry is still living. Maurice and Robin died years ago. I dont know if Barry is doing any solo shows. He sang a lot of the big hits, though Robin did sing a few including I Started a Joke. But their harmonies together were amazing

I think Barry does some small stuff here and there. From what I read recently, he actually really enjoys watching cover videos of their songs and reaches out to people to complement them on it. He did a live stream on twitch earlier this year

Sounds familiar
quote:

According to Robin Gibb, the melancholic melody of “I Started a Joke” was inspired by the sounds on board an aeroplane: The melody to this one was heard aboard a British Airways Vickers Viscount about a hundred miles from Essen. It was one of those old four engine "prop" jobs, that seemed to drone the passenger into a sort of hypnotic trance, only with this it was different. The droning, after a while, appeared to take the form of a tune, which mysteriously sounded like a church choir. So it was decided! We accosted the pilot, forced him to land in the nearest village and there, in a small pub, we finished the lyrics [with Barry]. Actually, it wasn't a village, it was the city, and it wasn't a pub, it was a hotel, and we didn't force the pilot to land in a field ... but why ruin a perfectly good story?

An even more obscure fun fact: The "nekkid woman on the cover" was a depiction of an LSU coed, several photographs of whom appeared on the inner sleeve liner notes.

Drew Struzan drew the album cover.

He’s a big thing in the world of illustration, more especially movie posters but also album covers.

Originally from Oregon, studied at UCLA and has lived and worked in L.A. since the ‘60s.

His penultimate album cover-
