Yes.
The Mc in McMansion is a reference to fast food. It's quick, easy and cheap to produce.

Beyond awful design, they’re almost always poorly built as well. So they fall apart quickly.

Oh, ok. I see. Those are a bit ridiculous. Looks like a lot of Texas homes. I don’t see many in this area. Like i said in the other posts....it’s mainly Horton homes innundating LC

Who and why are we making fun of people that try to live in decent, newer homes now?
Most are urbanites living in a city that's far more "cookie cutter" than any burb
It's meant to be derogatory. People just like to bitch

luckily around here the people with money hire architects and the people trying to look like they have money do a pre-planned thing

We’ve got 10’ side setbacks but my neighbors and my driveway are all on left, so I’m roughly 40’ each neighbors dwelling on a 1/2 acre lot. I backup to the golf course but there is probably 1/3ac 50’ x 100’ of OB common area that I maintain even though it’s owned by ClubCorp.
This is typical setup or better for most golf course communities. We have architectural review committee and design review committee for all homes so neighborhood flows very well

I’ve read through this thread and I still have no idea what a “McMansion” is not have I ever heard the term before or where it came from....
Can someone clear these questions up for me?

I'm building a 4,000 sq/ft house on a lot 10 ft from another house, doesn't bother me one bit. Overall its the best fit for our lifestyle and the location etc was what we wanted.

I was commenting on living so close to neighbors. Sounds like I touched a nerve.

All based on kids for me. Schools are better in my neighborhood than where I was. Amenities for kids are better. The cost was better so that only one of my wife or I needs to work. There's also a sense of community in a place like that. I live in a big circle of maybe 30 homes. We have block parties. I know or am getting to know most of my neighbors. When I lived in the city, that was not the case. Most have kids and are between 30 and 45 years old. It's actually quite nice.
I do miss the restaurants and being closer to work and things like the zoo and the museum district. Those were fun to do with the kids. Just a matter of what is important to you, I guess. Definitely needed to be able to afford the house on one salary alone, though.
