Don't use the term mistress for a woman who is in a long-term sexual relationship with, and is financially supported by, a man who is married to someone else. Instead, use an alternative like companion, friend or lover on first reference and provide additional details later.

I don't think they know what that word actually means.
Posted on 4/13/21 at 1:19 pm to tiggerthetooth
Why is this word problematic?

She must be someone's mistress.

Well, TigerOnTheMountain has a problem with the term Associated Press.

I made up a word that refers to men in this scenario as "mastress" but I don't think it is going to catch on.

Yeah, you know sometimes...just sometimes, you can't just change the literal definition of words because you don't like them. That's a tough pill to swallow for this pussy generation that has been told their entire lives that they are special. But it's how life works.

I get it, to be fair.
I don't know the difference between a side piece or the chick pegging him when a story mentions his "mistress". I'm all for increased clarity.

At least they didn't ban the word altogether. I was worried about what to say in my next ... session.

I tried this with my ex-wife. She kept saying "you texted me instead of your mistress" and when I tried to correct her by saying "friend" she threw the rolling pin at my eye.

Is this an issue now because Kamala Harris got her first professional career boost by being San Fran Mayor Willie Brown's mistress? Serious question.

How about "slam piece" or "Receptacle American?"

My girlfriend hates the term. My wife's not crazy about it, either.
