There's a Mennonite community in Sondheimer, LA. Went into their store after a duck hunt in search of beer, to no avail.

I agree with you, but there's some issues with crimes not reported in those communities, like rape and incest.

Don’t they let their girls take a year or so off being Amish to go to the city and try to get the slut out of their system?

I stumbled accross this same video last week and was very intrigued. That guy and his family are extremely nice and welcoming. I could never live the way they do but I find it fascinating. Now the full on Amish without electricity is just insane. They are doing it right.

Otherwise known as the byproduct of generational inbreeding.

I was reading a book that went into some details about the Amish. Apparently anytime something new comes along they decide as a community whether it will be allowed or not.

An example was baseball. In this community a few boys were really good and got recruited to play for a minor league team I think. They started getting a lot of attention. The Amish don't like that and they outlawed baseball while still allowing lots of other sports.

I'm guessing they have non-stop controversies, because when I finally made my way up to Holmes County Ohio, I was surprised to find how the electricity works. Just from observation, about 1/3 of them (and they are Amish) have lines going to their houses. You see utility poles running some average looking loads around the area, but they don't connect to every house.

I also saw quite a mix between people using hand harvesters for the corn and some using a gas-powered contraption. All of them had corn silos on their grounds. Still lots of horse and buggies, beards, and black clothing.

Surprisingly, this family has a lot of the modern technologies the world uses today.

The only real technology an Amish person would have is a propane fridge.

Also, the Amish sect in Elkhart, Indiana got permission from the elders to use power tools at work assembling all those RVs.

I thought that the Amish died off as a group due to Covid killing them all.

Watched a video with the Swartzentruber Amish. These are the no electricity, could not be filmed, real conservative Amish. All wood furniture, wood burning stoves, gas lanterns. Way different than above.

They're Beachy Amish. They would be considered conservative Mennonites and/or liberal Amish.

Lots of incest and child abuse.

Closed societies tend to suffer from these.
