I don't think this is what is meant - though it probably does create tingles for some ladies. "Aggressive" in the sense of this study more readily translates into self-assuredness, independence (ie a mindset of plenty), and the ability to take control. You can do all of those things and still be a good dude. It's just how you express those traits.

What I got out of this article is that women are reinforcing toxic masculinity with their tendencies to be attracted to "cads".

I reckon it depends on the kind of aggression.
Germany recently had the "great fortune" of a sudden influx of aggressive males enter their country, as did many other Western European nations. I don't think they're the guys the frauleins are looking for, though....

It's not about going out and just wanting to be an a-hole. It's about being direct, assertive, and adversarial when situations call for it. Agreeableness is a female trait, not a masculine one.
I don't treat my wife poorly. I don't have to treat her poorly or break her down to boost myself. We have lines that we've established when it comes to how we interact, and I don't let stuff slide. If she crosses that line I'll check her. Like "Uhh...who the hell are you talking to? Have you lost your mind?" It goes both ways actually. It creates a level of respect between us that would be nonexistent if one party was allowed to treat the other poorly with no repercussions.

Its possible to be fully masculine, yet also have a soft side. You can be aggressive and take charge, yet still know how to listen to and value your wife. You can be tough and rugged, but also nurturing and loving to your kids.
I think the problem is when many men lean to one side or the other. You have your guys who are absolute asswholes who treat their wives terribly, dont know how to love their children, but because they provide money they think theyre a great man.
On the other hand theres the guys who cries while watching lifetime movies, has no say-so in his marriage, let his wife run completely all over him, and likely thinks the gillete commercial was oh so brave
