Wife and I both do occasionally which is what we assumed happened.
shite, there have been times after taking some sleeping pills that I've sat up and had full conversations then laid back down to sleep. Wife just lets me ramble

Exactly. Siri/whatever is already always listening, even if it’s disabled. Alexa isn’t learning more about me than my iPhone already knows.

I have 6 Echo devices throughout my house. They control:
1. Lights, inside and out;
2. Garage doors;
3. Door locks, front and back;
4. Security cameras, inside and out;
5. Water heater;
6. TV;
7. Thermostat; and,
8. Timers, alarms, shopping lists, to do lists, music, news updates, etc.
There are more than 20,000 "skills" that be used to give Alexa control of almost any appliance. Right now, Alexa and Google Home are just personal assistants. They're not really AI. They just respond to commands. They don't think or reason.
However, it's coming. Anyone who is opposed to AI is just spitting into the wind.

I mean, I might even agree that this stuff is potentially quite dangerous. But there's no going back at this point. And no avoiding it if you want to excel in modern life.
Voice assistants, and particularly powerful ones, deal primarily in the one thing we constantly need more of: Time.

How are people sacrificing their privacy more with Alexa than they do using a computer?
The device gathers information based on what you ask it or even what it hears. That's how AI works, the more data it collects the smarter it gets.. We are just in the early stages of AI so it's far from perfect, but it's not like the government is tapped onto every single Alexa and going through all that data.
When people say "you giving up your privacy", do they think the government is collecting data on every single person? I doubt the government or anyone really wants to read about me asking google home to tell me a joke..
