One user reportedly tried to turn the lights off in their home but Alexa repeatedly turned the lights back on, eventually uttering an 'evil laugh,' according to BuzzFeed.

Another Echo Dot owner said they told Alexa to turn off their alarm in the morning and she responded by letting out a 'witch-like' laugh.

Alexa is programmed in many voice-activated devices with a preset laugh, which can be prompted by asking: 'Alexa, how do you laugh?'

But so far, it's unclear why Alexa is laughing even when users don't ask her to.

No I didn't mean it that way. I meant that writing an article as fact because a couple idiots told BuzzFeed an unprovable story means their research was shite.

I hate when an add comes on TV for the Echo and gets my Alexa all wound up.

I assumed this was part of a scripted behavior and intended to be funny. My wife had a song stuck in her head last week and kept getting Alexa to play it. 2 times on the first day, then the next day after she asked Alexa to play it for the 3rd time in a row, Alexa gave some disgruntled response before playing the song. The crazy thing is right before she did that I made some comment to my wife along the lines of "Alexa is going to get pissed if you keep asking her to play that song."

Surely Alexa isn't smart enough to understand the conversation between my wife and I and basically gave us what we were asking for.

Why do people buy these things?

Are they stupid or lazy?

Sacrifice your privacy so you don't have to flip a fricking light switch?

She plays thunderstorm sounds on our bedside table every night while we sleep and randomly will ask us a question or tell us a fact in the middle of the night that is completely out of left field.

Once she told us a weather report for New York City at like 4 AM. Scared the shite out of us.

You know what’s even creepier - google censors out the above images compared to other engines.

Privacy of what? If I was doing anything I cared anyone knew about, sure I'd unplug the 3 Echos in my house.

But as it stands, I sure enjoy telling her to adjust my thermostat, turn on my fan, turn on my outside porch lights, and play sleep noises while I lay with my head on the pillow.

And then play music by command while I'm in the shower.

And then read me the weather and NPR news briefing while I sip my coffee in the morning and check my email.
