What happened, it can't simply be rapid onset old age?

85 year old man goes to doctor and advises he’s regular at 7AM every morning. Doctor says for a man your age, that’s great. Man replies that he doesn’t wake up until 8:30.

Woke up one day and my left leg was numb. Had some herniated discs seemingly come out of nowhere.

Waited 8 months for a laminectomy and fusion. Had it in March. Doctor says post op x rays look great, but I can’t walk without a cane.

I’m a freelance sportswriter so I have no benefits. When that work dries up, I don’t know if I’ll be able to perform physical labor.

I’m trying to trust in God, but I feel like I’m headed for trouble. I can’t blame anyone but myself. Started my life over when I got sober in 2016. In other words, I f’d around and found out.

Well I am 73, retired with SS and savings we are living comfortably until April of this year, leaving dog park with my 3 dogs, tripped over a damn garden hose, fell on left side and broke my hip. Pin surgery, 14 days in rehab, starting to get around on walker instead of just a wheel chair. I expect full recovery in another 6 weeks or so.

Yes it is difficult getting older but that is just how life works. Some of us are not destined to make it past 50 while some of us might make it to our 90's. All you can do is live your life the best you can.

3 of my 4 grandparents passed before 75. My maternal grandfather is still kicking at 99.

Well I have had 19 surgeries since 2015 for intestinal problems. I had never been sick in my life. I always felt like 10 years younger than I really was. Hit me like a brick. And then went into deep depression after not being able to continue working and drank till almost death. Weight fell to 106 lbs Nov of 21. Quit drinking and got lucky that doc did blood work and said everything is fine. Haven’t touched it since and now up to 200 lbs and feel better than ever…. At 63 I am feeling like 50 with my new found life. Now I am hoping to live till 90 ish but just worried about my mental state. We all die. It’s just a matter of how you feel as you go on.

Looking at age from 78. Don't obsess about how soon things end. Do things you enjoy with people you like being with. Tell your kids and grandkids all you know about family history...even if things were complicated in the past.

Do not wait for a "better day". Watch the sun rise and set.

Embrace whatever beliefs you have which comfort you. There are no proven rule books.

Or closer.

One problem my Grandfather had was he outlived all his men friends in a county of 15,000. When he died at 89 only one man who had known him signed the condolences book. He had been well liked and respected, but (aside from supporting his younger brother who was a lawyer) life had left too many he had known.

So i will be hitting that 75 yo mark in approximately the year 2053… i am wondering if by then, in three decades from now , advances in medicine and technology might stretch this ‘wall’ you are talking about hitting to maybe 85 years old ? Becuase if Tigerdroppings had been around 30 yrs ago, in 1993- i wonder if you’d be seeing the same sort of declines in the 65 year olds you knew ? As opposed to the ones who are hitting 75 years old now… At least, that is my hope..

I maxed out my bench today at 275. I turn 51 this year. I weigh 185 and am 6’1 and in very good shape. I’m also a Type 1 Diabetic and have been since I was 11. A1Cs run in the 4.5 range for the last 17 years. Point is put the time and effort in to stay fit. We all die, but how soon that happens can sometimes be helped by whether we help ourselves.

I think your replying to the wrong guy, because your comment literally has nothing to do with what I said.

A doctor once told me, “I’ve seen lots of spry 70 year olds, but I’ve never seen a spry 80 year old.

I think that’s a bit exaggerated, though, because this year’s Crescent City Classic saw a 79 year old finish 499 and two 78 year olds were just in front of him. That is a sub 46 minute 10k, which is spry!
