Traditional media outlets are desperate for money. They will do damn near anything to get money.

Meh. Q has replaced Scientology as the absolute bat shite crazy "religion".

There's a lot more actual footage of the Bidens doing creepy shite than there is footage of Xenu.

Pretty much everything you see in the paper today is a paid for article. The exception would be a hit piece or crime and fire reports.

I don't care... You know why? I don't read that shite. The Advocate is gasping for air.

I cancelled my subscription and have not paid in over two years. Still delivered promptly every morning. Maybe the delivery team should be running the paper

Praise Xenu! Finally some honest reporting!

Isn't Xenu basically the Devil in their "religion?"

The “article” by the Scientology nuts is probably more factual and unbiased than anything written by the Advocate staff.

I would say politics in general has replaced religion

If you hate the Advocate for being a rag devoid of journalistic integrity, the fact that they are broke enough to run this ad is extremely satisfying.

Most news is paid commentary. They just disguise it as something else.

They continue to deliver papers after cancellation.

Their Ad revenue is based on total subscriptions. So they keep their numbers up by ignoring cancellations.

I had a neighbor who traveled out of town frequently. Pissed him off that he could not stop the daily trash in his front lawn.

This is true. Paid advertising is king pretty much everywhere. But speaking as someone who put together a lot of press releases for various clients over the years (at a 100% publication rate), most of those are little more than thinly-veiled ads to begin with, and they still represent a bottom-line win for any major media outlet.

They all need content, but there’s only so much money to pay writers and only so many AP stories to pull from before they all start looking like complete boilerplate. Send them something more original that’s well-written and free of errors, and they’ll jump at the chance to fill all that white space with a quick copy-paste. So what if it’s designed to serve your client more than a journalistic pursuit? It basically does their work for free, and the average reader can’t or won’t read critically enough to know the difference.

It’s how the game is played, and it has been for a long time. Yeah, this particular article is a lot more obvious about it, but it’s hard to say whether it’s indicative of a desperation move or just laziness born out of bad habits. Or some of both, I guess.
