What’s the story here? A nice wide 4 lane divided highway in the middle of nowhere.

A political favor? Someone thought this area was going to boom?

Connect Bogalusa to the interstate. Not sure why other than it had been discussed for 40 years.

Follow up question.

WHY has it been discussed for 40 yrs? All the other road needs in this state and this is done?

A quick look at a map and it seems 21 was going to be 41 and go directly to I12.

Looks like a lot of property needs to be bought to get there. Imagine someone that way has some pull.

The project is called I-12 to Bush. It’s part of the decades old TIMED project. It will make a connection from I-12 to Bogalusa and will take traffic off of 190 in Covington.

Quick search but it may connect to this upcoming corridor project that’s broken into three different projects.

Another one is 3235 down in South Lafourche. It bypasses Larose, Cut Off, Galliano, and Golden Meadow. The project started in the 1970’s. They built the bypass of Golden Meadow first, that was a road to nowhere when built since there were no outlets back to LA1 constructed yet except for residential streets. Then in the 1980’s the section in Galliano was built and a connection with the South Lafourche bridge.

Then in the late 1990’s/early 2000’s, the section between Larose and Cut Off was finally built. In Larose, they widened the right of way built a center section where the roadway would go to a new 4 lane bridge over the Intracoastal waterway.

They also had to build a new lift bridge over Bayou Lafourche to connect the Larose access road with 308 to replace an aging pontoon bridge.

But back to 3235, the plan is to cross the Intracoastal in on the LA1 side with a new high level crossing. Then it would eventually head north and curve to the 308 side with a need for another high level crossing over Bayou Lafourche. The road would then closely follow the old railroad track right a way to US 90.

One cost saving measure would be to build a twin 2 lane overpass on the 308 side in Larose and that would reduce the number bridges needed for the project, but you would have to rework that right of way and intersection in Larose with LA 1, 24, and 308. Also, you would have a lift bridge since you are using the existing 5 lane bridge in Larose over Bayou Lafourche.

Now that the Leeville Bridge will be done to 3235, maybe now the state can find some funds for a connection to US 90.

I would even be in favor of a Super 2 limited access road on the 308 side between US 90 and Larose. That would reduce travel times and shorten the route since you are eliminating the curves on Bayou Lafourche. Also, you make it limited access by limiting development on the side of the road to prevent people from making random stops to turn at businesses or homes along the road. You can also put the speed limit on it at 65 or 70.

As soon as Disney pulled out, there was no need to complete it anymore.
