We have a 4Runner and still run a roofbox when going on vacations. I was unprepared for the amount of crap my wife would drag along on a trip when you start having kids

Some people are smart:
$30k SUV with $500 rooftop cargo
or
$70k SUV
There's fuel consumption savings as well over the life of the vehicle.

So they want to try and make a “fancy” Bronco?

You should look into a hitch box. Easier to load and unload, but the best part is no wind noise like a roof carrier. And you can still fit in parking garages.

I like what I can see of the GX, but I wouldn't buy one from the New Orleans or Baton Rouge dealers.
And you are right - if I bought one in Houston that windshield would be cracked by the time I got home.

And it conveniently hides your license plate AND LGBTQ bumper sticker.

Most of them have a mount you can put your plate on if you want to.

I have a Thule cargo box. Useful and very well made. And it fits to almost any cargo rack on the market.
Unfortunately, It was leaning against the fence and my idiot painter got paint spray on it. What's the easiest way to get the paint spray off?

The new US Landcruiser is supposed to be based on this GX. I am interested to see how they juggle the 4Runner and Landcruiser (Prado) in the same market.

Toyota worked with Slee and Icon to develop an off-road GX concept, supposedly they’re going to eventually work in a model featuring some of their items, kind of like they’re doing with ARB/L
Old Man Emu on the Tacomas. I assume that ARB partnership will also extend to 4Runner.

I've been waiting so long for this and feel like i'm going to be disappointed when it looks like a G wagon.

A new GX starts at $53,100; the latest 4Runner begins at $36,340.
Same toyota chassis with a slightly upgraded V8. So, almost $20K just to get 30 more horsepower and the Lexus badges.

Those must be outdated numbers. Toyota 4Runner base price is $40,155 for a 2wd with V6 and 5 speed transmission. Lexus GX base price is $59,275 for 4wd (standard on all trims) with V8 and 6 speed transmission.

Did I miss where the LC is coming back to US market? Or are you talking about the Lexus 300?

Not official, but it seems Toyota is bringing the smaller LC / Prado to America again soon. No idea how it'll work with the 4runner being so similar.

I’m glad they didn’t screw up the grill.

When you build out the 4R to be as comparable as possible tot he GX the price gap is pretty insignificant. You have to really option up the 4R to get 4WD, nicer interior, third row, etc which are all standard on the GX.
Also, if you're looking at used then the GX wins hands down with the lease turn in soccer mom mobiles.
