The 2024 Lexus GX Is So Boxy That Even the Windshield Looks Flat

I didn't need any more reasons to be excited about the 2024 Lexus GX, but today, the automaker gave me another. Past teasers of the truck have already shown its boxy upper half and chunky mirrors with tightly cropped shots. This time, we get a look at it from further away. And even though a big puddle splash obscures most of the GX's design, it's enough to get us by until it debuts on June 8. Just look at the angles! And that windshield!

My mentors would tell you it's poor form to use exclamation points in written copy like that, but they had never seen this factory GX off-roader when they gave me that advice. Not only does it look sharp in every sense of the word, but it also has the least offensive grille of any new Lexus SUV. That alone is worth celebrating. And underneath it appears to be a sturdy skid plate that'll come in handy if I ever get my hands on one.

I'm excited to see what this means for the next gen 4-Runner.

I’m glad they didn’t screw up the grill.

Honestly kind of like it.

So, circling back to the 1990’s/1980’s again in design.

Looks like a 1990’s Land Cruiser(a good thing).

Likely I4 turbo standard w/ 8speed auto, and I4- Hybrid as an option. We'll see if the V6-TT is optional.

Current defenders have big problems with cracked windshield due to how vertical they are. Doug demuro said it’s pointless to change the windshield cause it will just crack again (rocks don’t skip if they hit full force).

Looks like this car might be the same way.

I bought a 23 gx yesterday just so I could get the v8. I know the mileage sucks, but it is bullet proof and I don’t have to deal with turbos or hybrids. The buying experience in Metairie was probably the worst ever, but I left with it and am happy with the car.

The MPG didn't bother me it's the lack of power. Only 30hp than the 15yr old 4runner V6.

I get the simplicity and reliability, that's why I bought mine, but Toyota is not new to turbo engines (they even design /build their own turbos to maintain their reliability). I'd wave off the hybrid, but would buy the turbo GX.

Cool, I'm about tired of "sporty" looking SUVs. It's a family car, quit trying to hide it.

The RX for example looks ugly and stupid. First, the floating roof thing is just dumb. Second, the "coupe" roof line all smashed down??? Yeah that just means your family car will barely hold a dog in back and a couple sacks of groceries.

What looks really dumb is when you see people with a cartop carrier because they were too dumb to buy a family car that actually holds stuff. So they can look cool I guess???

Negative baw status here.

Price LeBlanc used to be awesome.

Their Lexus dealer in Baton Rouge is horrible.

The FJ was the same way. If you looked at that windshield wrong it would break. I refused to get it fixed until they finished construction on 12.

The photos in the link don’t show me shite. Also I prefer the boxy look. Curious to see it.

Idk. Audi, Porsche, Mercedes, Alfa Romeo, Maserati, Lamborghini, and Aston Martin all have pretty great looking sporty SUV’s with performance to back the look. The Lexus RX is a car for old people.

Some use it for a DD, and only need the extra room 1-2 times a year. I see people with wagons do it all the time. Hell, I see a guy regularly with one on top his 911, just doesn't trigger me I guess.

From the front and without seeing the entirety of the grill, the new GX kind of has a Nissan Armada look to it. Boxier on the sides for sure though.

Toyota/Lexus has to get the power trains right on all of their new stuff. People were willing to pay top dollar and overlook lack of standard equipment on Tacoma/4Runner/Tundra/Sequoia because the V6 and V8 can reliably get you 250,000 miles or more. Hopefully the new turbo motors prove the same.

Yep. I had a Mitsubishi Montero with a windshield angle like that. I cracked a brand new windshield on the way home from getting it installed. Aggravating as hell.

Some people are smart:

$30k SUV with $500 rooftop cargo

or

$70k SUV
