If you are thinking about drinking that much then you have a problem. The only legit advice is a 12 step program.

Drink from 7:00 pm on? Don't stay out late and get to bed by 11:00pm.

I drink all my alcohol on Saturday nights during football season. Texas doesn't sell till noon on Sunday.
I stand and wait in line at 11:50 every fricking week.

Oh, man...I tried that many times but it never worked for me. Everyone is a bit different I suppose, maybe you can do it successfully.
It's the way your body reacts to alcohol and your brain has become chemically addicted. It literally takes years off the stuff before your brain and neurological system is functioning "normally."

What do you drink (i.e. Whiskey, Beer, Wine, All of the above)?
How frequent (i.e. every night)?
What time do you start?
I assume you drink till you pass out?
All of the above will depend on the advice that should be given (other than, quit...and you said you don't want to do that).
If you drink 3 or 4 craft beers a night vs. Vodka 4pm till you pass out then you need to quit.

This statement alone should concern you.

When you get tipsy stop drinking and you probably won't blackout.

Frequency: 3 nights a week max. Usually have one of two glasses of wine weds night before bed. Friday night I'll drink wine or vodka and not get blackout. My problem is on Saturdays and long trips/vacations. In these situations I tend to binge drink.
I've never had to urge to HAVE to drink
However I hate being hungover and notice that I'll binge drink instead of just taking the hangover

That's probably not an option. OP unfortunately you are probably are one who shouldn't touch the stuff. Nothing against you or your character or anything like that, but some people mentally/physiologically can't put it down.

I cant drink responsibly so I don't drink.
Its ok not to drink despite what society would have you believe.
Think of it this way, the only people who its normal for to get blackout drunk are teenagers and hobo's. If you aren't one of those and cant control yourself, don't drink. Would you continue to eat peanuts if your face swelled up every time you had them?
No difference. Learn from your mistakes and move on.

Try to gradually decrease your consumption. Stopping Cold turkey can be tough.

See, this is my question. If I drink until just drink 4 times a week...does that make me an alcoholic? What if I'm still functioning responsibly?
Posted on 11/7/16 at 11:33 am to CorkSoaker
Just bought that book and thanks for all the helpful answers. I'm to the point now where I think a break from it can be the answer. If not then I'll have to quit for good
Posted on 11/7/16 at 11:34 am to GermantownTiger
Sounds like you have a binge drinking problem.. Going weeks without drinking and suffering no ill affects means you arent physically or mentally addicted in the traditional sense.. You have a compulsive issue related to your ability to consume reasonable amounts. Either quit or learn some self control

I drink half to a full suitcase 2-3 times a week.
Probably 15 beers a sitting on average. A Friday night I could polish off a full suitcase with more time.

Good reply. There's nothing wrong at all with not drinking, there's plenty wrong with continuing to drink when you shouldn't.
