That Canadian/American couple that was held hostage in Afghanistan had kids in captivity

I heard this story last week and thought for sure the children were a result of her being raped continuously for 5 years, but apparently her husband said the children were planned.
Um...am I the only one with in mode right now? Why would you have children if you're being held hostage?? Also, the wife was pregnant when they decided to go backpacking in frickING AFGHANISTAN.

On Monday, Boyle told the AP that he and his wife decided to have children even while held captive because they always planned to have a big family and decided, "Hey, let's make the best of this and at least go home with a larger start on our dream family." "We're sitting as hostages with a lot of time on our hands," Boyle told AP. "We always wanted as many as possible, and we didn't want to waste time. Cait's in her 30s, the clock is ticking." Boyle said their three children are now 4, 2 and "somewhere around 6 months."

We shouldn't waste any resources on people in these situations.

Kids can crawl through the bars and get the key.

That baby has a look on it's face that says "frick I love being white!".

The husband kept her knocked up so that the rapists couldn't. It probably also minimalized the number of dudes wanting to rape her if she stayed fat and cranky.

Hell, that's not really that terrible of a plan. The first part, anyways

Who in their right mind would want to go backpacking in Afganistan? That’s a fricking suicide mission.

I assume the same type who view North Korea as a prime vacation spot...

So the kids are sorta dark skinned?

How do they even get to those places? Last time I was at an International airport, I don't remember seeing any departures to North Korea or Afghanistan.

kids look white or whiteish. I think one is even a blonde. But, I've seen some light haired Afghans before.

Someone who used to be married to the sister of a Guantanamo detaineee.
Boyle was once married to Zaynab Khadr

It sounds exactly like something a Canadian would try. Nobody is going to tell a Canadian he shouldn't do something like backpack somewhere for the sake of his wife's safety. Secondly, they're the cheapest bastards you'll ever meet. I'm sure the daily cost was factored in.

We Scottish Can Ams prefer the term “thrifty” or failing that “Frugal” that’s why all the windows are triple glazed in Glasgow- save money on heating costs plus the kids can’t hear the ice cream van passing by...

The wife was 7 months pregnant when they went "hiking." The guy claimed he was a pilgram. I think he went there to join them, but they saw more value in making them hostages/human shields. He refused free transport back from the US government. The wife is a US Citizen. His quote the article he says he is sufi.

It honestly makes the whole story very, very fishy.
However, doing some Googling, it appears that Afghanistan does have a very tiny tourist industry. I just don't get why someone would go there.
