(CNN)A man in Thailand is facing up to 37 years in prison on charges that include mocking the King's dog.

Thanakorn Siripaiboon, 27, is accused of "liking" a Facebook page deemed insulting to King Bhumibol Adulyade and posting a sarcastic photo of the 88-year-old ruler's pet dog -- charges that contravene notoriously strict laws protecting the monarchy from insults or threats.

His lawyer, Anon Numpa, told CNN Wednesday that his client has been charged with violating Article 112 of the criminal code, known as the "lese majeste law," along with sedition and computer crimes.

This is one example of how blessed we are to live in America, land of the free and home of the brave. People need to stop complaining and appreciate the freedoms we have. MURICA

Having lived in Thailand - this is not a surprise. The king and queen are completely off limits for insult or commentary (and have generally been incredibly benevolent forces for Thai reform on the balance). Deemocracy in Thailand and abuse of power would be laughable and rampant respectively without his temperance over the last five plus decades.

This law will be changed in the future I suspect. The prince is quietly, but widely, disliked - if not despised. The king and queen will die soon and these laws will lose public support if they are used to defend the new king.

I hope all the idiots in this country who want to stomp flags and act like morons take note. This is what living in a country that doesn't have freedom looks like.

Disliking the king's dog in Thailand is considered the rough behavioral equivalent of burning an American flag in the United States - are you in favor of this being a crime or not?

Don't know the difference between communism and socialism?

We are a mix of capitalism and socialism. In communism the government owns everything. No one is advocating that. But continue with your straw man argument

I would

First, communism is under the umbrella of socialism, so read a book or two on the topic before you try to spout of your intimate knowledge of the difference of the two. I Intentionally oversimplified for the OT, but I was equating Bernie's stance on governmental powers to Leftist communism/proletarianism ( check out the history of the Bolsheviks).

Unfortunately the simplified version struck a nerve in your tiny little bottled up world of regurgitating the one sentence definition your high school teacher passed on to you via PowerPoint.

Try getting out into the real world and see how this "socialism" is being played out in Argentina, Brazil, Venezuela or Nicaragua.
