Colleague and I are having a discussion.

When I misspell of misstate something in a text, I might correct it in the next text with an asterisk.

So if I said "Chicken is the gretest," my next text might say "*greatest." But some other people I know would say "greatest*."

Does the asterisk go before or after the correction?

usually i get what they are trying to say and vice versa so i dont really care too much about stuff like that unless it fundamentally changes the message. but on times that i do correct myself, i usually dont even add the asterisk. i just text the correction

if you feel the need to correct that misspelling, that tells me you think your friends think you're dumb AF

EVERYONE knows what word you meant and I hope everyone thinks you know how to spell it

But I normally only correct typos that affect the reading of the text.

Do we really need the star? Even the correction isn't really necessary when the word you were going for is obvious.
