fricking tard
Even Dallas isn’t flat. It’s hilly all over. Then head south the hill country and it’s beautiful.

Georgia, it's easier to get back to Baton Rouge through Hammond on I-12. Coming in from Texas, you have no chance with the Miss. River Bridge

I’d kill myself if I had to pick a place to lived based on how easy it was to get back to Baton Rouge.

Baton Rouge is the center of the universe.

I moved to Georgia 9 years ago and I love it. It seems to have a great variety of places to visit. You have mountains up north, three very large lakes, nice rivers for tubing/kayaking, city attractions galore, all levels of beach front, with plenty of parks as well.
Before I moved here, due to work transfer, I really didn't know much about it, and never had any plans to visit, but I am so glad I did.

Baller alert! That's one of the only places in-town I would ever live, but ain't nobody (except you and your neighbors) got that kind of money... and even if I did, if I was literally that rich, why in the hell would I (or you) want to live in Atlanta? With that kind of money, you can live anywhere in the world. Why Atlanta?
Serious question.
Sorry to hijack topic.

What alot of people don't know is that the Chattahoochee River running through North and West Atlanta is stocked to the "gills" with trout, and there are established regenerating populations of both Rainbow and Brown trout. This is only possible because of the water release from the bottom of Lake Lanier, where the water never gets above 50 degrees at the dam intake, so the next 20 miles of river is cold enough to support trout year round. You can catch a trout on a flyrod with skyscrapers in the background. Not alot of cities can say that.
It's also a big enough river to be boatable, and you can catch stripers too.

I love Texas and all but it’s a bit disingenuous to include Big Ben type of outdoors for this discussion.
Atlanta too is an 8 hour drive from nice hiking.

And you have to live in midland or New Mexico to be anywhere near it.

Something else I've noticed about Atlanta in the last ten or so years is the revitalization of the individual neighborhood identities.
People used to say "I live in Atlanta"... now they say "I live in Inman Park/Edgewood/Cabbagetown/Little5/Virginia Highlands/Old4thWard etc."
The old and historic storefronts in the centers of these various in-town neighborhoods, once blighted, have all become thriving businesses with a dedication to the neighborhood's identity. Restaurants and bars, retail sales, professional space, etc. I have to imagine this is what Atlanta was like in the 50's pre-White Flight.
Atlanta isn't near the shithole it used to be.

The Appalachian Trail trailhead is 1 hour north of Atlanta.

I feel the exact opposite. Atlanta and it’s surrounding areas were much nicer in early 90’s through Olympic Games in 96 until around 2005 or so. Parts of Gwinnett and DeKalb counties were way better than some of the downtrodden areas now. Even parts of East Cobb (Roswell rd, Johnson Ferry area) were nicer 15-20 years ago than they are now.
Buckhead was safer and better too back then compared to what it is now. I have friends in Lawrenceville/Duluth area that said crime is now more prevalent than it ever was.

Property crime is probably up everywhere due to the opioid crisis. It's terrible.

I live in Buford and the petty crime is creeping up north from the shitholes further south like Norcross and south Gwinnett. Gwinnett county has some of the best schools in the state if you live in North Gwinnett. Pretty much anything 15-20 miles north of the perimeter is great. I rarely go into the city as there is everything 10-15 minutes from me. AAA baseball, Infinite Arena (which has hockey and lacrosse) and am 30-45 mins from the mountains. It takes me 5 hours to get to the beaches in Charleston.
If I had to choose, I would not choose either but I have also only been to Texas as a tourist or on work so I dont have that level of opinion.

I was talking about Atlanta proper, not the suburbs. Suburbs are definitely worse, perhaps a direct relation to the in-town neighborhoods getting better.
