What alot of people don't know is that the Chattahoochee River running through North and West Atlanta is stocked to the "gills" with trout, and there are established regenerating populations of both Rainbow and Brown trout. This is only possible because of the water release from the bottom of Lake Lanier, where the water never gets above 50 degrees at the dam intake, so the next 20 miles of river is cold enough to support trout year round. You can catch a trout on a flyrod with skyscrapers in the background. Not alot of cities can say that.
It's also a big enough river to be boatable, and you can catch stripers too.
You can also learn how to swim, learn who you are, learn a lot about livin', and if you're lucky, a little 'bout love.

I gotcha. Yeah, the city and the virgina highlands area are much improved. It’s just odd that the suburbs aren’t what they used to be. I’ve noticed even as far north as canton and Cartersville isn’t as nice either.
How are Douglasville and some of the western suburbs these days?

I never go out that way. It depends on who you ask. My co-worker lives there, and is currently remodeling his house so he can sell it and gtfo.
ETA- the impression I get is the south suburbs are the new in-thing, around Peachtree City etc. Used to be the other way around.

North of ATL, there's nice hills, cooler temps than pretty much anywhere in Texas but a LOT of very country hick people.
Texas economy is better, as many have said it depends on the city not so much the state

Just skip Texas and Georgia altogether and head to Tennessee. It’s better than if you combined the best of both states.

And I wouldn't have it any other way.

Then why do the majority of people who work in Chattanooga decide to live over the border in NWGA?

I love Texas and all but it’s a bit disingenuous to include Big Ben type of outdoors for this discussion.
I live in DFW. All of the “mountain” pictures people are posting come from Big Bend which would be a...7.5 hour drive. Even San Antonio is a 6 hr drive to Big Bend. Ok beaches are a good 7 hours away as well.
From an “outdoors” standpoint, North Texas is awful, the rest of the state may be slightly better. Now I came from eastern WA where is was equally flat and even less green but real mountains and hiking and lakes were maybe a 2-3 hour drive in any direction. Nothing is that accessible in north Texas.
You move to Texas because you want to keep more of your own money. You want cheap land or a cheap house and better schools for your kids. You don’t go for “outdoor” opportunities.

You aren’t too far from Austin/San Antonio hill country area

Out of those two I’d say DFW
Or live in Terrell Texas
In GA, I prefer Savannah and Valdosta
Augusta isn’t bad but not what you expect
Statesboro, GA is nice as well

Statesboro is a hell hole.

Hill country is not far at all from Houston. Anyway, OP didn’t specify any particular part of Texas so it’s all fair game.
But yeah, overall north Georgia is probably pretty nice for kayaking and fishing and all, of that’s the only consideration. But Texas is certainly not flat like Louisiana. That’s just people who haven’t been west of houston.

Depends on what you want. Texas is a far far larger place and the commercial triangle of DFW, Houston, Austin, San Antonio offers a lot of opportunity. Atlanta is probably more livable on a lot of levels.
