Texas is not taking any chances and aims to protect the second amendment.

Under the new law, nearly everyone can carry handguns openly or concealed.
People who’ve been convicted of felony gun crimes and some other misdemeanors are still not allowed to carry guns, but most adults 21 and older can now carry handguns, openly or concealed.
As part of the law, police will be allowed to question people seen carrying a handgun.

Good.
I think Louisiana was considering it as well. But it naturally took its place behind Texas on this.

Do not like.

Because a license that teaches gun laws, ensures the person knows how to simply use it, and teaches conflict deescalation is such a slight to the 2nd amendment.
A lot of folks are going to learn that the carry laws have NOT changed. A couple beers with dinner at a restaurant and you’re in hot water.
I am 100% a steward of the 2nd amendment. I am 100% against untrained people toting firearms.

How ridiculous is it we have to "pass a constitutional law"?

I feel like this just makes it more dangerous for cops. I was good with CCW license and the barriers to entry over this law

The bill is on JBE’s desk waiting for him to sign.

Permit was designed as a money generator first and foremost. I think the premise of no training is most people who will carry will take initiative to learn/practice with the weapon.

In-state produced suppressors.

I think most people will still choose not to carry in public. You didn't need a permit to carry in a vehicle before so the danger level remains unchanged in that aspect.

The right to bear arms shall not be infringed… except if a politician tells you you’re not good enough with the gun

Yeah….. because most criminals obey laws and never carry unless they’re permitted? It certainly makes it more dangerous for criminals as a few trigger happy news carriers will undoubtedly shoot someone. And I’m sure there will be some accidental discharges by idiots who don’t understand fire arms. But that’s the cost of freedom. Individual freedoms necessitates personal responsibility. The government shouldn’t subvert that.

Gov. John Belle Edwards has already said he will veto Constitutional carry here.
"Conservative pro-gun Democrat" Can't wait till he runs for Senator against Kennedy and gets crushed.

Well, it seems to be a pretty difficult concept for criminals to grasp and they don't seem to care about buying, carrying and discharging guns legally... in fact, if you haven't been paying attention, there is a massive gun violence crime wave sweeping this state, on top of the already record amounts of thug gun murders the state traditionally has. So, if criminals are possessing, carrying and using guns no matter what the law says, why not change the law so the average citizen can protect themselves without fear of being arrested? The criminals have no fear of being arrested.

at thinking now untrained citizens will flood the streets with weapons.

I believe that it will only lead to an increase in said criminals [who are no longer in violation of the CCW regulations] carrying when they normally wouldn’t have, giving them more opportunities to escalate violence . Reasonable regulation by the government is a necessary condition. I think this is simply pandering by short-sighted politicians

Should we have licenses for all constitutionally-protected rights? Licenses for free speech, avoiding illegal searches and seizures, a jury of our peers, etc.

They are still not allowed to carry, this law doesn't change this if you read the article.
