The post- COVID tinnitus thing is legit and very out- of- nowhere weird. Happened to me but okay now. While it was severe, apparently this dude had next level symptoms.

Very sad. I have to think there was more going on this just Covid for him to commit suicide. Are Texas Roadhouses closing down in high numbers? Every one I know of is doing ok (which I admit, is only 3 or 4 of them).

Suicide is terrible, nothing to joke about. The mental torture the person must be going through to commit such and act and the pain, hurt and bewilderment and regret it leaves all that loved him.

So sad to read.

Typically if the suicide happens within a certain time (often two years) the policy won’t pay. My BIL offed himself, and his wife collected $8 million.

This is a very sad story. He committed suicide due to post covid symptom of debilitating tinnitus. Although debilitating tinnitus is not as common in the general population (it is much more prevalent in our veterans), we are actually seeing a huge uptick in cases of sudden onset Hearing loss, dizziness, & or general tinnitus post covid. It’s just not being discussed as much in the mainstream media.... Covid is a virus & viruses can attack and damage the inner ear & Eighth nerve...

I haven’t had Covid but I’ve had severe tinnitus for 20 years and it’s no fun. Add into that sudden hearing loss to 80% in one ear and it’s a frustrating condition. I’ve never considered harming myself but for those who don’t know I do see where it could drive a person absolutely mad. And there is absolutely nothing that can be done to fix it.

Suicide is the real pandemic. I personally know of 5 people that have committed suicide in the last year. Put a friend in the ground last weekend due to taking his own life.

I won’t speculate on the effect Covid had on any of them, but something in America is broken and lives are being snuffed out like cigarettes. We weren’t built or conditioned to live like this.

Head case who offed himself. Pretty common.

Not at all. Mr. Taylor was one of the better businessman in the area and a genuinely decent guy. Gave back a ton to the community and was well known in the area for his philanthropy. He was also a firm believer in if you treat your employees well, they’ll work hard for you. I had the pleasure of working with him the last couple of years in a fundraising capacity and he was just a genuine salt of the earth kind of guy.

He developed tinnitus after having COVID-19. After developing it, he committed funds to a clinical study to help military personnel who have developed tinnitus.

He’ll be missed.

ETA: Roadhouse is doing fine. They handled dining during the pandemic well. Mr. Taylor gave up his compensation for this last year to give back to his employees. They had also just started a new chain that’s been fairly successful here at their test location called Jaggers.

Only during the contestability period. One or two years depending in state law (Louisiana is 2). Not just suicide. If you die from an undisclosed (or even unknown/undiagnosed) event during this period, they can also deny coverage under certain circumstances.

In a joint statement provided to McClatchy News, Texas Roadhouse and Taylor’s family said he killed himself after experiencing ongoing symptoms, including “severe tinnitus,” after he was infected with COVID-19.

Tinnitus is often described as ringing in the ear and usually caused by underlying conditions, including age-related hearing loss, according to Mayo Clinic. A study published in November found COVID-19 could worsen the condition.

“Kent battled and fought hard like the former track champion that he was, but the suffering that greatly intensified in recent days became unbearable,” Taylor’s family said in the statement.

I would be curious if he is a figurehead CEO. Some large corporation owners have little to no control over day to day activities. Especially once the business goes corporate and has a Board.
