i would agree... but if that is the argument, then the same case could be said for Buddhism in Japan, Hinduism in India, etc... therefore, Christianity, by your own measure, is not the ONLY bastion of morality...

I hate this grandstanding nonsense. Every year a state or district tries this only to waste a fortune on legal fees. Not taking the bait on this one again.

It is the parents’ job to teach children morality and faith according to their beliefs & world view. Schools should stick to the basics: math, science, history, literacy, etc.

Flipping it around, do Christians really want some dumbass public school teacher explaining the basis of your faith to your kids?

Gonna be a no for me.

Right. It’s no coincidence the further society moves from Christianity the further down the shitter it goes.

I never said that, only that people living in the U.S. are influenced by Christian principles as they're everywhere and inescapable. I could argue that since I believe all humans are made in the image and likeness of God that the "biological moral truth" we have is divine. There's a forest of weeds to trudge through beyond that idea.

The Founding Fathers only limited the federal government in that regard.

States such as Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire and Maryland all had state religions into the 1800s.

You're arguing against yourself in the first line, you mean the they made the decision to limit the involvement of religion in the federal gov, aka the one they were creating, with the free exercise and establishment clauses.
They used the power they had to implement it.

Not really. The did the federal and left the rest to the states. They had been part of their states' governments prior as well. The 14th changed that.

I'm aware of the incorporation doctrine, but you can't get around the actions they took for what they were creating

I'd say California, New York or Minnesota need it more than Red Texas.

Until the Muslims have a problem with it and then it’ll be over just like that.

I wasn't trying to. They viewed the federal government as less important than the individual states though at that time. One was a Virginian or a Georgian first.

Eh, required reading might be too much. Posting the ten commandments is obviously fine as a legitimate reminder of being the basis of our society and form of government.

Of course, if this were a Muslim or other predominate state, readings of the Quran would be mandated. We're the only major religion it seems that won't recognize or enforce itself.

The Texas Education Agency proposed their list of "Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for English Language Arts and Reading," which is set to go before the State Board of Education next week for a preliminary approval vote.

The list includes a variety of texts, ranging from Sophocles to Fred Rogers and culminating in hundreds of required texts from kindergarten to 12th grade.

This is just basic literacy; not pushing a religion, in my opinion.

It does kind of read like that, yes.

quote:

Senate Bill 10, of Texas' most recent session, requires every public school classroom to display the Christian Ten Commandments. The bill was approved by Gov. Abbott in late June.

This is pushing a religion.

Lol not at all. It is recognizing our society's foundations. This is well established.

No one said it was, in the broad discussion sense. Idk about this thread conversation. The point is that it is the correct one, even if other moral systems have some similarities.

The leftist idea of, "You're biased toward the west because you grew up in it and can't escape it" is so stupid because the west as it is did not once exist. It became what it is. And it is the greatest. It's wild how some people but into destroying the greatest civilization ever because, "Maybe it could be even better."

Texas, especially the DFW area, has been overrun by Hindus and Muslims.

Wrong. The United States was literally founded on biblical principles. Not other religious beliefs.

Dumb.

Just as dumb as requiring reading the Torah, the Koran.

Discussing the books themselves as historical texts withing the context of discuss world religions? Perfectly fine.

Guess Landry will be calling a special session to get this pushed through La so he can say he was first.
