In the current climate he showed poor judgment by bringing it to school. People don't have a sense of humor right now and you can't really blame them

He's a child bringing something to school he was proud of that he built. He showed it to a teacher who was ok with it but told him to hide it.
He was not at all trying to be "humorous". He's a kid that probably didn't understand why anyone thinks his clock is a bomb.

I wonder if he told his teachers he was bringing it beforehand

I've heard of people literally being arrested for "terrorism" for making drano bombs with a 2 liter bottle. Kids were white as can be. It's definitely an overreaction by the school and the cops, but lets not equally overreact that this was the most racist overstepping of his civil liberties that ever existed. It's messed up, but it isn't a new anti-Muslim phenomenon. People overreact to a lot of "terrorist" accusations since 9/11.

All jokes aside, we don't know the whole story. He may have joked with some classmates about having a bomb, which is a big no no obviously.

THATS A BOMB.
THIS IS A CLOCK.

It's a bomb as much as dropping mentos in a diet coke bottle is a bomb. It makes a loud noise. You really it's worth going to jail and having to hire a laywer because you made a 2-liter pop in your back yard!?!?!?

And he's wearing a NASA shirt. Yeah, this is classic profiling. Parents should get some $$$ out of this. This kid doesn't look suspicious at all IMO.

Article says it's a circuit stuffed pencil case with a digital timer on the outside.
If he was white and drew a picture if a gun he'd be kicked out of school.

No but it shouldn't be compared to a clock. That was a fricking retarded comparison.
One has an explosion. One tells time.

If he was so damn smart, he would have known taking it to school was a bad idea.
This is an obvious troll, to set up what looks to be a pretty solid law suit.

Kids get suspended for making a gun with their fingers and pointing it at other kids, there is a zero tolerance policy for that and homemade clocks that resemble bombs, ignorant or not.

Really? Where did any kids get suspended for making a gun with their fingers?

I'm not saying the items themselves are comparable, just that the overreactions are comparable. Yeah, one was a clock, kid was let go. One did go boom (although harmlessly), and kids had to hire lawyers to make sure they were not kept on a no-fly list for the rest of their lives. Both are overreactions. Just pointing out that it isn't new.

People want to be sensitive KG. Can't post links to white kids being suspended. Back to topic. The kid is smart enough to make the clock, but not enough to realize it could be taken the wrong way? Get outta here.

Fine.
Do kids get handcuffed and thrown in jail for this?
Posted on 9/16/15 at 9:22 am to TheCaterpillar
I intentionally didn't say anything race related on the OP. I don't think that was the reason he was thrown in jail.
This might have happened to any kid of any race. I'm just trying to show how fricking stupid it was to handcuff a nerdy, 70 lb kid and throw him in jail for bringing a clock to school.
Pull him out of class? Fine. Suspend him? Too much but fine. Handcuff and throw him in jail? Total wtf moment.
