I intentionally didn't say anything race related on the OP. I don't think that was the reason he was thrown in jail.
This might have happened to any kid of any race.

This is not true. I have seen firsthand how the drano/chlorine bombs in 2 liter bottles can cause really bad chemical burns. I made several with a neighbor when we were 12-13 and one blew up in his face; it ate through his clothes (and the few drops that hit me went straight through my clothes) and his eyes were burned bad enough that he had to wear eye patches for a couple of weeks. He' still got scars 20 years later where it hit his skin.

I didn't say that. I said I don't think it was THE reason.

How many bombs have you seen set off by clocks in real life?
Also, even if true, that's fine. Put him in the office, even suspend him. Handcuff a tiny kid and throw him in jail? Come the frick on.

Seems COMPLETELY different.

Price "has been warning the students for some weeks," said Warner. "We've had a problem at this school. The boys have gone around fake shooting and making paper guns at class. It's inappropriate. She has sent notes to parents for the past three weeks alerting them of the problem."

Warner said Nathan wasn't singled out as an example, but that his was the first incident after Price gave "her final notice last week."
The kid had tons and tons of warnings, and the parents did too. Lets not act like forming a gun with your hand one time is getting this kid suspended. Still crazy, but there were lots of warnings. The dad should have made it clear to his son as well.

What do you think THE reason was?

Overreaction by police. I'm sure race made it worse, but these dumbass school district cops were just hungry for action I'm sure.

If the kid didn't make any threats and really just built a click out of interest then the school and police should be ashamed.

Was the school evacuated? How much of a threat did people really feel if it wasn't?

Is a picture of the clock available?

Not currently, but this is gaining traction in national media. So unless the cops destroyed it (bomb protocol), then I bet a picture is released.
If the kid has an iphone like all kids do these days, I'm sure he snapped a photo too.

Overreaction by police.

I lol'ed.
And I don't disagree, I just think it wasn't the ONLY reason this happened.

either the police/teachers are morons or this clock looks a lot like a bomb and the science teacher probably should have thought this through more. Seems like we are missing some info here.

Yall are saying these things because a government official had the reaction.
If a Muslim kid walked into your party with a device that looked like a bomb, I doubt you'd be so understanding.
And if the ethnicity really wouldn't matter to you, then you're not using your brain.
