have a bad feeling that I will eventually end up in either Dallas or Houston someday
Just happened to me. Transferred to Dallas for promotion. It's not all that bad, but I do miss New Orleans. I dont have a family yet though. I am beginning to believe that New Orleans is an awesome place to visit, but Dallas is an awesome place to live an raise a family. We'll see how I feel in a few years but the differences are amazing. Its clean here, they have tons of public amenities like walking/biking trails, nice parks, light rail, low crime, all 4 major pro teams, water parks, amusement parks, festivals, etc etc. I almost dont mind the property taxes b/c you can see where theyre being spent.

How many one liners can I come up with in this thread? Trolling is fun.
I'm not sure, but my illegal immigration joke earlier was overlooked

now compare how many people move to texas vs move to LA.
people would much rather live in texas
I was looking at the stats last week actually. Texas had 11 million people in 1970. They have over 26 million today. Louisiana had 3.6 million in 1970 and have a little over 4.6 million today. We really need to start picking up the slack.

Figure out a way to get a border crossing with Mexico and you are set.

all 4 major pro teams,
I knew they had a NBA & NHL but I didn't think Dallas had a NFL or MLB stadium.

There is no border patrol at the louisiana texas line already.
Either way, it's the energy sector that has boosted Texas up so high...I wonder why the same didn't happen for Louisiana....

cowboys and rangers, while not in the city of Dallas, are still in the metroplex

Plus when you factor in that my homeowners is almost $3k less a year than in Nola (for more coverage btw), no state income tax, my auto ins is half what it was in Nola (for more coverage) and that the majority of property tax goes to public school system. This means the kids, even the poor ones, are better educated. Better educated youth = less criminals. Property values are rising like a mofo here too. I was lucky to get my new home in Lakewood.
Some of the burbs are like one big giant strip mall, but Dallas is pretty cool. Check out Uptown, lower Greenville for a Magazine St. feel, Deep Ellum, Bishop Arts District, museum district etc. Tons of locally owned restaurants too.

Well since we are metroplexing large areas then we get claim to parts of Mississippi and the fat chicks.

the value my parents' house has risen about $100k in the 2-3 years they've been here.

we're metroplexing areas that are established as metroplexes. not just annexing things we want

How are the trout biting right now in the metroplex ?
They really have turn on here in the last week. I'm trying to decide if I'm going to a free concert after work or going fishing. It's hard choosing cultures sometimes.

They definitely love to go take in the culture
I experienced this once again last weekend. Was in BR, we were brainstorming ideas of things to do with family. We were having a hard time coming up with something to do considering the range of ages was 9 months - 65 years old. Finally someone said, "let's go culture". It was awesome.

In a decade or so, Texas will be more like Florida. Full of transplants. It will become more like California, politically in the next few decades as well.

I live in Dallas but grew up in La..........I've been a "Texan" for about 3 months.
Anyone have anything to say to me?

I do find a lot of people from Dallas to be pompous assholes.
That is all of Texas - people not from here find that a lot. It is because we are better than you and you are jealous.
