Yeah whatever it takes to make the renaissance man of our age slow his roll and focus on manufacturing widgets, right? I said the same thing about Da Vinci, he should have stuck to painting. All that later stuff was just so “ out of his lane”.

If he focuses on LEO activities then I can see it being profitable into the future.

But if the mission really is to colonize Mars it is going to fail.

TSLA is down nearly 10%. Clearly, I'm not the only one who feels this was all a Hail Mary.

You realize he could lose 10% across the board and still would be the world’s richest person right?

And? Does "world's richest" equate to "world's best businessman"?

TSLA is down 17% over the past year while the S&P has been regularly reaching record highs.

Same 1yr returns on other tech stocks:

AAPL +27%
GOOG +19%
MSFT +25%
AMZN +43%
TSLA -17%

TSLA is, objectively speaking, failing as a business. He's living off reputation at this point and he's doing a hell of a job of ruining that, too.

I just can't see what the end goal of all of this is. Practically, I mean. All of these things these robots can do sound great, but eventually we are going to have to realize a higher purpose if we don't want to sit around and do exactly what you're saying.

A lot depends on how the power structure shakes out. Individual humans are losing the little power they have in our material world as we trend towards being a worse economic value than automated technology. Are we headed to dystopia where a few companies own everything and only give the rest of us just enough scraps to survive but stay under their boot? Or are we headed towards a Star Trek future of abundance, where you literally can do or have anything or any experience you want.

Hopefully we’re getting the Star Trek future and ironically I think the freedom of an abundance economy will see many of us returning to spending more time in natural environments and less time in artificial ones.

How many of us now work 50 weeks a year just to spend 2 weeks at a beach or in the mountains? What would you do if you had more economic resources but didn’t have to work for them?

Many of us said the same thing about Thomas Edison. He should have stopped and focused on the Alkaline battery but no he had to spread himself thin by inventing the incandescent light bulb, phonograph, motion picture camera, microphone, and best example of all the telephone. Edison took his eye off the prize and allowed Alexander Graham Bell to patent the damn thing.

I completely disagree with you here. The robot invention will save millions of males from extinction! The females will just yell at the Robots now instead thus leaving husbands alone to do their thing. This is a life changing experience for men as their stress levels will be significantly reduced. The poor robots will have to deal with their hormone swings and shitty attitudes when they don't get their way now.

I know it’s rhetorical, but I’ll answer anyway. think I’d probably spend it exercising, watching sports, reading, and trying my hand at carpentry. Specifically building structures.

Which leads to other issues. Is art built out of abundance or despair? Stephen king describes his work as bubblegum, and a lot of it is easy quick reading, but the shining is filled with themes of alcoholism I don’t think he even knew he was creating when it occurred. Carrie was almost thrown in the trash because he felt so worthless about his career.

Undoubtedly you will get works of art from people who thrive creatively when they are free from obligation, but a lot of the best work comes from pain and suffering or telling the story of pain and suffering.

Crime and punishment, grapes of wrath, any cormac mccarthy. Just to name a few.

Not saying you don’t also get the opposite. Jane Austen is a primary example of this, a book like persuasion is well written, but it’s an embodiment of frivolity and carelessness. You have to reach to find slightly dark themes in that book. Melancholy, sure. Depression and suffering, not so much.

Things are about to get real different. And I say that with no guess as to how they are going to be different. But if I had to guess how we will feel about it, I don’t think anyone can say one way or another if this is bad or good. I don’t think we have the capability to understand this even with someone who promises a vision of a brighter future.

I think quite literally it does.

There’s a lot of factors that go into this.

Also I notice you focus on stock price of tsla.

How about you compare the stock price of X compared to the stock price of Twitter the day before Elon acquired it?

If you're going by stock prices then you are going to be very disappointed. Tesla is doing well as far as vehicles on the road, CT is finding success, and FSD has a been a win thus far. There is more of an argument to say the market is correcting the stock price for when it was inflated. Buy some now and you will be happy

Fidelity now estimates X is worth less than a quarter of what Musk paid for it.

You do realize that all manufactures of electric vehicles are reversing course right? There just is not enough demand for them. Ford, GM, etc. are scrapping plans on building more of them. This is not just a Tesla issue. People want ICE vehicles.

It was worth every penny of loss to clean up that cesspool. Elon should be given a medal.
