I lived with a woman in my 20s for seven years, straight out of college.

She was a pharmacist and I was a fledgling engineer. We lived together from 23-29.

Eventually we went our own ways. Years later, when I was 55, I got cancer and entered the MD Anderson system.

The head pharmacist and person directly responsible for my life? Yeah, my ex-girlfriend.

Totally professional of course, but let's just say I'm glad I wasn't an a-hole during the breakup.

Luckily I never hit a deer but I do have a near-miss Story I was headed to family land in dripping springs 90 something and Bee Cave Road in the roads getting there the land was right next to dripping Springs Park I mean right next to the State Park we actually had access through our private land to the parks so when it was shut down we could go


Anyway on just a relaxation retreat getting away from Austin this is when I worked at the legislature and the plan was just to chill out until a group of girls arrived Saturday morning mid morning

But I had strict agreement with the family that owned the house which they made readily available I mean you could go if you wanted to and nobody kept us away from it but some families had weeks weekends that they were there and generally unless they asked you out there with them

Usually, it was labor .. we did all the work, Even the stuff that required land-moving machinery I didn't drive it but when we were doing that there was a family member that did.

The Rule or request was no more than six adults and no more than two children under ninewhich was broken all the time. but if those lil frickers broke something that I, out here fixing,,,,we had words

Anyway I had a cousin sign up for the extra spots just to make sure that I was there alone with the girls there are no specific plans but I was working in a general direction. But it ended up that while the girls were there that cousin actually came by the land because she wanted to drop something off some pillows she had knitted or stitched or something
Well I admit I had some words with Aunts and Uncles when they heard about what was going on ,

My argument with them was there was no role against adultery or fornication in the bylaws that we agreed to and we all knew damn well some of that had taken place then it would just look at em' right directly in the eye

So Friday night , there was a near miss with a deer I was able to hit the brakes and turn and they were able to change direction but there was a split second where me and that deer....
we locked eyes
me in my truck/
that deer ,, to be clear that deer did most of the work

I hung on. that deer was a baller

Anyway my plan didn't work because unbeknownst to me two of the girls couldn't stand each other and the third girl ,
who I was least interested in . She drove....but I thought I still had a chance with the other two
eventually I steered clear of number three number

number one and two fought all the fricking time,,,I ended up just starting some of it because it was about the prettiest thing
and every time they fought I pointed it out l and lauged at them about ruining what could of been a fun weekend,, Austin Chicks....in the 90s,, they were trying to prove something

because they came out together and I didn't want the 3rd one hanging around

So I used a lot of lotion.. The thing to say about family places ....here are always lotions in the closet

A family member won the lottery a couple years ago and they have been very generous to us and the rest of the family.

My wife (she was just my girlfriend at the time) Grand Prix was struck by lightning while she was driving. The whole electrical system was fried.
She had only bought it a couple months before this happened. GM actually fixed everything under warranty.
