Tried to take my 9yo niece on the first weekend. VIP ticket for her, comps for us. She had gotten into some horror movies like nightmare and Chucky so figured why not try.

She made it through a few of the actors wandering the street.

The doll that comes alive. So that 5' in the door.

Then bless the actor's heart, I encouraged a mutant grandma to interact with her. She did her thing, asked for a hug then leaned forward and cackled. Kiddo kept stepping back and to her aunt, then waved me down.

"I can't do this."

Under the chain we went and to a corner to let her compose. "It's different when it's on TV!". We left, she was bummed, thought we were disappointed. I was proud she had the guts to say she couldn't hang. Went home ate popcorn, watched Dr strange, she watched Killer Klowns with me the next morning and laughed her butt off.

No nightmares, but she didn't get to the hellevator.

When in line, keep your head on a swivel. Wandering zombies like to sneak up on people to screech in their ears. I enjoy going.

It's hard to get me on a gag. But I enjoy the attempts and other reactions.

The corn maize in Port Allen got me one year. Long story short they baited me and my girlfriend at the time, and eventually two frat Bros that entered the section after us with a "lost" little girl. Then she ran down the darkest path when the chainsaw hillbilly came in. Me and and one of the frat guys went full rage mode. Poor actor was "screaming she's with me!" Poor guy was not expecting fight response.

All had a good laugh and a "shite man, your part is dangerous."

But fricking amped, because paternal fear of there is a terrified lost little girl who is going to run through corn and be lost all night and will hide from everyone because everything is now hillbilly murderers ran through me.

My gripe is that they just let people walk in and it gets clogged up with people. 90% of the scares are people jumping out at you.

So when the line gets backed up, you see everything in front of you. At that point, you're just walking through to see the decorations and costumes.

I would stop at corners and let the people in front go for a little while.

They need 'scenes' in the place. Just a constant walk through is lame

There are a lot of scenes and quick skits going on in many of the rooms. If you're brave enough to be in the front part of a group, you're almost guaranteed to see all the acting. But on a very busy night when it can be almost a constant line of people, sometimes you'll miss when a room "resets" and starts over.

I went recently and the new Carnevil part across the street was interesting too...axe throwing, games, and the insulting clown in the dunk tank is good too. He's like a poor man's Jeff Ross, but he's pretty funny.

I meant scene as in a group of 10 or 12 goes through the house by themselves. You go into a room, they act out the scene, and then you move to the next room.

Chinchuba in New Orleans is a good example

It is after the 12th gate but distinctly before the 14th.

You’re welcome.

Never been. Went to house of shock a long time ago

If it’s anything like that, here’s some things that may ruin a kid

1. There was a church setting with an upside down cross with a skeleton on it, and a “priest” who was a devil worshiper

2. shite grabs you in the dark
2b. Someone in my group behind me freaked out when something grabbed them, started pushing me in the back and pushed me face first into a wall

3. For boys only - the alligator that jumped out of the swamp scene nailed me in the balls while o was looking at something else

Go drink at the bar across the street beforehand. It’s FABULOUS.
