I agree that Natchez is experiencing a slight revitalization with Tate Taylor and the mayor. My comments were aimed toward the poster that said hipsters are everywhere and Natchez PD was serious business and tough on crime.

It would make no sense to go through St. Francisville. That is already super close to i10. I personally think it would ruin some small towns in CenLa but Highway 28 and 84 already have the roadways that run across the state in the middle through Alex (making an interchange for i49), as well as Jonesville has an interstate grade bridge(s) and Natchez also has two bridges. I would be very surprised to see i14 run further south. What current existing hwy runs from the Audubon bridge to the state line on the west side?

The gambling riverboats killed the restaurant scene in Vicksburg for many years. It’s made a comeback in the last 10 years. Downtown is coming along but still has a long way to go. I’ve lived in both and Natchez is better

I doubt this happens in our lifetime. I-69 is still years away and it's been going longer than 14

I would live downtown or just south of town.

It is relatively safe and small. Very little to do there. 2 hrs to nearest decent airport (BR). Very limited shopping and industry. I love the town, but have family and land nearby.

The movie industry is a short term deal. They come for some different scenery, use the tax credits and then bail out after a few years. Ask BR, and so many other small towns left in their dust.

I was born in Natchez, grew up 20 miles from there, and lived there for 4 years as an adult. I never felt unsafe, but I knew where I shouldn’t go. It’s a really cool place if you like good food, small bars, and the outdoors. There is still a LOT of old money in Natchez.

Not an advocate for this route for 1-14, but:
La. State Hwy 10 takes you from the Ms. state line west all the way thru Fort Polk, just shy of the Texas state line, admittedly with a heck of a dog leg thru Washington, La. in between.

From that point there are two current bridges across the Sabine that a southerly I-14 could potentially connect with to cross the Sabine into Tx:
north at Leesville or south at Merryville.

I agree that it makes much less geographic sense than a Natchez route. However, there seem to be many highway routes based on lobbying rather than geometry and demographics. (see: Audubon Bridge)
Oakdale and Bogalusa are not without clout in D.C.

To get back to the original question, I think an Interstate would change Natchez's current vibe (or alternately, that of St. Francisville). If I were moving to either for their current atmosphere, I would hope that the project stalls as an earlier poster mentioned it might and at the same time I would sure want to keep up with the potential project's progress.

It's safe compared to Vicksburg. Someone mentioned it being a great place to get lost, and that is true, because there's not much around it, and the Natchez Trace is a great way to escape.

I was born and raised there, but moved away after high school, so I haven’t lived there in nearly twenty years. From what I see from my friends’ FB, it’s not nearly the town that it was 20-25 years ago, but the current mayor also seems to have them on quite an upswing. My family and I currently live in the Jackson “suburbs” and it would take more money than anyone in Natchez could pay me for me to move my family back there. I think it might would be an OK place to live if you were near retirement age and didn’t have any school age kids, but I have a 6 and 3 year old. Hard pass for me. At the same time, crime seems to be much worse than it was when I grew up there. I guess that could be said for most places, though. Take my opinion for what it is worth.

I don’t want to speak for them but that’s probably the last thing St Fran blue blood types want.

If you want to see a place that's really isolated, look up Alcorn St Univ on Google maps. It's approximately 25 mi NE of Natchez surrounded by miles of thickly wooded hills. About 5 miles off the river

Yeah, I really don't ever expect to see it done in my lifetime lol. I was just saying, that and it was supposed to connect military shite I think in the first place. But all the current projections (including other State's) all have it through the Alex/Natchez path.

It was/is originally a Texas project and the corridor lines up with going through Central La. The Audubon bridge was a result of a promise of 20 plus years to the farmers and people in that area of La that they would get a bridge. Everyone acts like that was a random thing.
