They work for toddlers too, but they take longer to understand.

They work until the power goes out or the dog realizes it only hurts for a few seconds

It probably depends on the dog.

I've been walking my dog and had dogs in yards run up but stop at the invisible fence. I also saw a post a few days ago about a lost dog who left their invisible fence.

I dunno. I still flinch when I'm on a run and see a dog running across the front yard barking at me.

Worked on my labs for a few days. Then they started taking a running start at it. Small shock was aparently worth the freedom.

Yeah, our dog would just get running with a full head of steam so the shock was only a half second. She wasn’t even a particularly tough dog either.

Doesn't keep a pit bull out of your yard that's going to eat your fur baby

Worked great for an American Bulldog & Boxer
Was a PITA to try to take them for a walk because they did NOT want to cross that line

worked great for my golden. He was too terrified to go near the boundary. Refused to cross the line to go for a walk though when I would take the collar off. As mentioned though, if you're worried about other dogs coming onto your property and hurting your dog, it won't keep them out. We did not have that concern and were very happy with the fence.

Try it on yourself before you bury the cables or install the posts in your yard.
If it hurts or if you don't have the guts to try it, send it back.

to the question 'are they humane' I say this: PROPERLY trained, the dog only needs to be shocked ONCE to understand the situation. You then need to invest TIME, walking the dog on a leash up to each flag, and then say "NO" and pull them away. Repeatedly during the first several days...the training is crucial. Properly trained, with ONE shock, my golden never got shocked again.

I had the electronic shock collar for my Lab. I set the radius at 75 feet so he could roam anywhere within a circular area from the front door where the base unit sat. It worked great once he learned the system.

Well for starters...you cannot actually see the fence.
