As a father and someone who struggled in the past...there is hope.
Not saying it's great, but could be a lot worse. There are people and places that truly care, and can help him if he wants help.
That's the crux...he's got to see the light and ask for help. In the battle with the darkness, it's gonna cloak his world in shadows and black until he can't see a way back. Like there's no escape from the maelstrom.
You just have to get him to grab onto the rope he's been thrown, and start climbing. Because he's the only one that can.
Godspeed brother.

In patient is really not that bad or difficult. You should probably call BCBS and they can tell you/him the options. Sounds like it's nothing too serious right now but if he keeps it up he may try other drugs.

Stonewater in Oxford Mississippi is one of the best. And resilience recovery in West Palm. Dealt with similar situation with my son. It’s tough.

I can verify tomorrow.
I know it is not connected or similar to the traditional Teen Challenge that sells kettle corn in parking lots under the guise of substance abuse treatment.
Edit: I would also recommend Stonewater in Oxford. The clinical director there is a jam up clinician and a former coworker.
But I think you better prepare thy anus when at the business desk.
Also, Awakening is SERIOUSLY faith based. A lot of parents think their kid is religious or because they grew up religious, that it will be beneficial. It rarely is and is often counterproductive.
Again, be careful.

Parents definitely need to go to Alanon. It's a great support and has lots of people who have walked in your shoes. You don't have to talk, just listen. Parents should also do therapy, lots to learn about addiction and how to stay as healthy as possible in the process.
I’ve been down this road myself (as an addict/alcoholic) and strongly recommend the parents get to an Al-anon meeting. It’s the only way for them to learn how to confront this very real and dangerous problem.

Reach out to Genesis in Baton Rouge. If they can't help, they can guide. There's a place in Shreveport that the helped us get our kid into when he was 17. CADA is the name of the place.

Methadone or a similar drug is your best option, unfortunately it has its own set of issues but they are much better than the alternative. Every addict believes they can beat it when they want to but it’s getting to the “want to” that is the difficult part. It’s a very difficult path and I will be praying for you and your son because this will be a long and winding road. It is a winnable battle

Addiction is an ocd personality disorder where the addict fixates on the object of their addiction, cold turkey isn’t a winnable strategy for most because eventually they will be old enough to make their own decisions. They have to learn to fixate their obsessive personality on something else in order for it to truly be successful long term

Bruh what? No
I’m all for MAT for those that need it. I did, buprenorphine saved my life making it even possible for me to get treatment and on my feat. But he’s a 16 year old experimenting with stuff.

Where is he getting money to support that habit? It’s very expensive.
I’d check out facilities away from where you live and in the middle of nowhere.
Do not send him to a resort rehab. They don’t work.

Threads like these always bring out the best in humanity on this board. I’m proud of you guys.
Been on this board for 20 years and have seen some of the stupidest things posted you can imagine but have seen some really tough reads dealing with life issues. One thing i have learned posting your problem or issue on this board there will be at least 2 or 3 people that have dealt with that exact same issue. Good luck OP and nothing wrong with posting looking for advice because as they say you have definitely come to the right place when all else has failed.

I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this. My brother had similar issues and I know what it does to a family. The Menninger Clinic in Houston helped him. I believe they specialize in mental health issues coupled with addiction. It’s expensive though. I wouldn’t send him there if he doesn’t want the help. Godspeed my friend.

I would look very seriously at some of these ibogaine treatment programs they are doing down in Mexico. The programs are science based, well overseen by qualified people and are having incredible results with addiction, ptsd etc. Rates that exponentially surpass those of rehab here in the US. Rick Perry is pushing to start trying it in Tx. There is a lot of information out there to read on this and other similar type programs. Rehab programs here have very low success rates and are most of the time ways for addicts to build their network with other addicts. I unfortunately know more about rehab than most people having dealt with it for years with my bil. We spent hundreds of thousands of $$ sending him all over the country to different rehabs only to have them fail time after time. Addiction is something the medical community doesn’t really understand. I personally think some people are just “wired” differently with addiction and it’s adding gas to a fire that most people don’t have. Now addicts that are using pills won’t last long with fentanyl being so widespread and being added to pills to make them stronger etc. That’s what got my bil, thought it was a Xanax and boom fentanyl, dead before he could walk to the door of his room.

Teen Challenge programs
A friend of mine had a life long addiction to everything, he went in and out of rehabs for 20 years until he went to Teen Challenge in New Orleans for a year.
It worked for him and he swore by it
