Ok, so you’re partially versed in this stuff already.

He does have a chemical imbalance, he is getting a high from scoring the drugs and those are addictive and compulsive behaviors.

Probably good to start educating the whole family on some of this stuff and take it out of the realm of it being his fault without traveling into learned helplessness, however you feel best to navigate that path with the knowledge you accrue.

First, give yourself a little credit for the work you’ve already put in. I’ve only been in on it from the side of the kid, so I wouldn’t want my parent feeling hopeless. I would want them feeling appreciated and I’m sure he appreciates you. I would if you were my parent.

Don’t feel bad coming to the rant either. I came here when I was at the end of my rope and had nowhere else to turn and some really cool people turned up for me.

He went to a psychotherapist for about a year as well. He diagnosed him with borderline dsd, but didn’t identify any past trauma. I’m sure there is more studying to be done on him, but that was our last update a month ago

You can do everything right as a parent and still have a kid that fricks up with stuff like this. I knew a few like that growing up. Nice families where parents were always at school functions or at the ballpark with their kids. Had other siblings that stayed out of trouble and did well in life, but there'd be one sibling that got mixed up with people who were bad influences.

The best thing you can do is to know who your kid's friends are because they're going to influence your kid for good or for bad. Its tough with 16 year olds though because even if they don't drive, they have friends who do. So its impossible to know who your kid is hanging out with at all times. You can track the GPS location on their phone, but that doesn't mean they're not hanging with shady people.

Thank you for the kind words. I definitely don’t want to blast my personal business on here, but I’m desperate. My wife and I have been making calls for a week and can’t get any answers from treatment facilities. There are far too few options for teens

He is a minor. You decide if he goes to rehab. He doesn't have to be committed under court order. One way to find a rehab facility is to ask your local mental health center for a recommendation. They can point you to a licensed facility that accepts your insurance.

has it been a week since the newest revelation finding out he was buying drugs?

Has he been out of you or your wife’s presence since?

I’m asking because I’m curious of any symptoms of withdrawals? That could help gauge the magnitude and type of rehabilitation he needs

A good one can get through in much less than year. A really good one will tell you give me 8-12 weeks with him. Look up Dr Arlene Magee in BR.

This sounds harsh… but if he gets picked up by the police for it… let him sit in the Parish a couple months ..
it is a great place to find new dealers.

Unfortunately so is rehab.

A kid with some tech know-how can defeat that pretty easily. A jailbroken iphone with a GPS spoofing app and he can make his phone's location appear to be anywhere he wants you to think he's at.

I wouldn’t necessarily call it drama. More like a cry for help if anybody on here has dealt with something similar.

Never mind the idiots on here. My prayers are for you and your family. You're going through a parents worst nightmare.

I'm sure there are some good people with solid advice here, just try to ignore the clowns.

FWIW YCP isn't a drug treatment thing. Or at least it wasnt.

It was basically jail. Majority of youths were there to get juvenile records wiped clean and come out with a GED. Also there's plenty of drugs snuck in there.

Hell come out of it not needing high school anymore and able to do alot of pushups, but the drug thing won't get addressed and his shitty friends will be waiting for him when he gets out.

He got caught buying drugs a little over a month ago. He ended up going to GB Cooley in Monroe for 9 days and had some pretty good withdrawals there. He hadn’t had a phone since, but he had pills stashed somewhere and we can’t find them anywhere. There haven’t been any visitors to our house (cameras everywhere) but I know there are always ways to get things behind our back.

I second the teen challenge program. I was a mentor at the one up by Alexandria/Pineville area. It’s great. They can get a diploma or GED. It’s basically military boot camp. It works for the most part. I’ve witnessed it

No clue where you live but if in Baton Rouge, call over to The Recovery Center and ask to speak with Rudy or whoever is available. Explain what’s going on and tell them you are not sure where to look due to the age of your kid. They will certainly point you in the right direction. They run the best outpatient rehab in BR and have seen every scenario.

Where does he get the pills at 16?

It's either from your medicine cabinet or a friend's medicine cabinet.

If he's buying from rondos off the street, how does he get the money? Does he work or do you give it to him?
