Just curious, but what happens if you report finding 135k to the IRS? You pay taxes on it and get investigated? And if they prove you actually found it and can’t find who it belongs to, you get to keep it? Not exactly sure on the protocol for truthfully finding a hundred thousand

Honestly I'm not sure. But you couldn't just go deposit this type of money into your account without consequence
If you told the IRS in advance that you found it and declared it I'm not sure what they would do. Presumably there would be some investigation or they might ask you to turn it into someone.

Turned in $155k, police report it was $135k
He’s got a future in civil asset forfeiture AKA law enforcement, for sure.

I’ve rarely seen a poster come full circle in a 5 page thread
Nice work

Theft, it's still theft. You being so stupid as to not understand that really explains so many of your posts.

You've never seen someone make an obvious joke thread that is only not obvious to complete morons?

is it stealing if you find something on the ground?

Do you think the whole finders keepers thing only applies to money? Or anything you "find"? Let's say you find an unlocked bike... do you just take that too? A lawnmower sitting near the street... are you wheeling that find off as well?

Yes, it would be a misappropriation of funds aka theft.

No. I am generally asking the question related to local laws.

If you’re the only one around you that knows that your jokes are jokes, then you need to stop telling jokes...
Or stop pretending that crappy opinions are jokes

I think that generally the way laws work is if you take something that isn't yours it's theft.
Also, has no one seen No Country For Old Men?

You must the type of person who - finding a million dollars accidentally/incorrectly deposited into his bank account - feels you have the right to spend it all without recourse because it was "their mistake, not mine."
