BREAKING: Sonic Corp. has been sold. The OKC-based company will join restaurants brands Arby's, Buffalo Wild Wings and Rusty Taco in the Inspire family as part of a $2.3B buyout.
The deal has already been approved by the Sonic board.

They weren't bought by Arby's, they were bought by a company that owns Arby's.

I would have to think that Arby’s et al are owned by some larger holding company that acquired Sonic to pump up their fast food holdings. Meaning “Arby’s bought Sonic” wouldn’t be accurate. More like “the people who own Arby’s and BWW and 99 other things bought Sonic”.
