See, these are the kind of economic development announcements we need from the mayor to propel New Orleans into the coming decades to compete with the likes of Atlanta, Houston, Dallas, Florida, and Nashville. Excellent work Mayor!

It shutdown because their sales dropped dramatically after everyone had their repair completed.

a deal she said her administration had worked on with Target and Lowe’s for more than a year.

Gonna need some details. How did her administration become involved in a deal between a private business enterprise and a real estate deal? Are there tax credits involved? Is the city getting an ownership stake? Are they supplying staff or other funding to assist Target? What have they been ‘working on’ for a year?

It’s not a bad thing for a Target to open, but one has to wonder how they were enticed to do so.

I'd imagine half of the inventory will have those shelf locks on the product.

Probably won't be able to take anything off of the shelf racks in the electronics department without getting an employee to ring you up first.

I live in NO. Have a place uptown and spend a lot of time in Garden District and Lakeview … sure as hell won’t go to NO East. I’ll continue to go to the other Targets in the area

Expect prices to greatly increase in other Target stores in the area.

Almost certainly there are tax credits involved.

Also Target probably wants some assurances that NOPD detail will be provided during all hours.

There's an update on the story. Latoya couldn't wait to toot her own horn and Target said hold up...

quote:

Mayor LaToya Cantrell appears to have misspoken when revealing that Target had purchased a prominent piece of derelict land in New Orleans East with plans to open a new store.

quote:

But on Tuesday, Target spokesperson Jacqueline DeBuse said the retailer had not closed on any sale in New Orleans.

DeBuse indicated the mega retailer might consider opening a New Orleans store, but had not committed to any development.

That buffoon couldn't wait to bump her gums for something she had nothing to do with.

Now its backfired. Looking forward to that follow up press conference.

How a large American city elects such putrid people I'll never understand.
