If you are going to be that big of a pussy, just stay home. Let the men have fun on the ranch.

So TX felons don’t have to have their records expunged in order to legally possess a firearm?

He can petition to have his second amendment rights restored, and if it was just a possession charge from long ago, he will most likely get those rights restored.

He’s still on probation though, that’s the problem

Why would I make this up? I wanted to get advice from this board on how to handle the situation. I don’t want go to fricking jail for being associated with possibly facilitating the illegal possession of a firearm by a felon

He is still on probation for a 2012 conviction? 22 years on probation?

Assuming your ranch friend doesn't know this felon guy, at least very well, because he doesn't know he's a felon on probation. If I invited you to my ranch and extended that invite to your friends, I would assume that as my friend you wouldn't bring anyone that could be a potential liability. If you wanted to bring someone who was a potential liability, I would expect to be informed so I could decide if I wanted to incur that liability at my ranch. 99% chance nothing happens from a day of shooting with the felon on private property, but non-zero chance something weird happens and all of a sudden its an issue with some potentially big consequences. I think the greater risk is that your friend finds out, isn't cool with it and now there is friction between you and your friend for putting him in a spot he's not comfortable with.

He served 5 years and got out in 2017. His probation isn’t up until November of this year. The gathering is planned to occur in 2 weeks

drug offense for marijuana possession
He must have been possessing a metric frick-ton of marijuana for it to be a felony.
Was the wrong place 50 pounds of weed in the trunk with the wrong time being when the officer opened the trunk of the car your friend was driving?
I think trafficking is the word you were looking for.

So he's even on probation yet.
Sweet!
I'm sure you friend with the range will appreciate you hiding this from him.

That seems a little more than simple weed possession.

If you aren't making this up, you are a loser. If you are making this up, you are a loser.

He never sold, he smoked everything he bought. I don’t know the exact amount they found on him, but it was enough for HPD to charge him with intent to distribute. My guess is he had several bricks in his car.

thats not wrong place wrong time. thats the culmination of a long series of bad decisions. and honestly not the worst consequence of the path he was on.

The first rule of "fight Club". applies in this situation also. You have peed all over that rule and probably have 4 kaki clad fbi'ers looking up your butt right now

Yeah he was breaking the law, but he’s never harmed anyone physically or mentally
