I wonder if that group wants to ban $20.00 bills too.

Is "modern day oppression" just the time after Jim Crow laws where they couldn't think of anything else?

Washington & Jefferson are on deck & in the hole.

Those people won't be happy stopping with them.

The Adamses will get it too because neither of them did enough and they fraternized with folks involved with the slave trade or slave owners.

This is an attempt at a narrow rewrite of history by a small group of folks to suit their narrow political agenda.

There is still slavery going on in the world today.

If the abolition of the practice of slavery and it's attendant evils were actually their goal, they'd be fighting the practice in the field today.

This is the perfect example of "give 'em an inch..." Seriously, frick these people. NOLA residents should be highly concerned that out of town groups and money can so easily influence local policy.

You know, I don't agree with taking down any monuments, but I get it. But, the removal of P.G.T. Beauregard monument was the hugest tragedy out of all this nonsense. These take 'em down shits have shown they have no knowledge nor perspective of history. And Mitch was glad to play his part in the their plan. frick em all.

This is the equivalent of a change.org petition. A handful of people get up-set about something and it gets a news story. Nothing is going to happen.

Agreed. That was someone who advocated for african americans being given the right to vote and fully integrated into society at a time when it was extremely unpopular to do so. People ignore the nuance that comes with being a human. Just like there wouldn't be a New Orleans if Andrew Jackson didn't defend it from the British or if Bienville never discovered it. Also John McDonough is perplexing to say the least as at least 2 or 3 historically african american schools in New Orleans chose to use him as their namesake. And on top of that upon his death he left educational grants to impoverished whites and blacks alike.

That's the thing...truth is, if you want to REALLY be butt hurt about some of them you could be. On the other hand, nearly all of the grousing about them was straight up manufactured as essentially NO ONE in the city of New Orleans gave a single solitary frick about those statues as anything other than landmarks.

Then suddenly you had pretend outrage coupled with pretend Civil War historians battling on social media. ugh...

Sad part is, we're long past the point of getting into any of the specifics of who these men were. As soon as the city orchestrated this with no debate or discussion, it was simply a matter of time before they were in a position to just act on demands, and anything that looked like a defense of any of them would be called down as racist.

The only one of the bunch that I think would be the ender would by Jackson, though. That's one that I do think people in New Orleans would actually defend.

I feel like we heard similar before the first 4 monuments came down. People should care and actively put these retards in their place. Ignoring them will only lead to more take downs.

true, and those dozens are mostly confused college kids with a mix of fringe whackjobs like Suber. I hope nothing happens to any of them during the next protest. The worst thing that could happen is some beatdown to drum up sympathy.

My question about this would be if you had the previous section being Jim Crow/Civil Rights era, what oppression would follow that if you saw Jim Crow as coming to an end?

From what I understand, the Jackson statue is on the National Historic Register. To F with it, you would need approval from the Interior Department.

Malcolm Suber really needs to get a day job and leave this shite alone
