This is why I don’t like to give in to activist groups... because they never stop.
They never just pack up and disband after they get what they “want”. They always have to move on to the next thing or take the previous fight even further to justify their existence.
It’s the same thing with the gun debate. Even though I don’t care at all if bump stocks are banned, you know that giving in will just embolden the anti-gun movement. You can’t give them an inch.

Disagree. The battle of liberty place monument was the biggest. It had the names of Metropolitan Police killed at the battle along with the names of the White League.
Its abhorrent that the names of police officers KIA get taken down to further a bogus political presidiential run.

If for no other reason than simply pure aesthetics, it's hard to disagree.

This is the equivalent of a change.org petition. A handful of people get up-set about something and it gets a news story. Nothing is going to happen.
And how did it start the first time?

Totally agree. Lee had zero nexus to New Orleans, I dont think he ever visited the city. But Beauregard, had pre war, war and reconstruction ties to the city. And oh by the way was a promoter of rights for blacks when that was not a popular position in the South. Plus his statue was an actual work of art, the detail is impressive.

The SC shooting which was followed by the Confederate flag coming down in SC followed by Mitch spear heading the removal effort. Bring em down Nola was not getting anything accomplished until Mitch threw his hat in the ring. I think we can all agree he didn't do this because of pressure from the handful of people in this group.
This group and any others just rode Mitch's coat tails for some limelight.

Lee was briefly stationed at Jackson Barracks (in New Orleans) prior to the Mexican War. More importantly though, the statue was connected to the 12,000 Louisiana soldiers, majority from N.O., who fought in Lee's Army of Northern Virginia as the Louisiana Fighting Tigers. They were extremely dedicated to him. Funding and momentum for the Lee statue began during Reconstruction, long before Jim Crow laws and the cementing of racial rules via Plessy vs Ferguson. It was the first of the statues. But yes, taking down Beauregard is the height of ignorance and narrow minded righteousness.

Politics aside, it was one of the finest equestrian statues around .......that and the Joan of Arc statue. Is Suber looking to take down the Maid or Orleans?

The guy was an abolitionist who helped found the nation of Liberia in Africa for free slaves to return home. Proof pr0g filth don't read history.
As was proven with Beauregard, they only care that he was a slaveowner at one time (Clay owned a few dozen). His views changed and he supported gradual abolition and re-integration to Africa (Similar to what Lincoln supported, except Lincoln was shooting for Central America).
BTW, Liberian history is pretty fascinating. The former American slaves went there, took it over, and treated the natives like 2nd class citizens and wanted to use them as cheap labor (not necessarily slaves, though). Pictures from the late 19th century show the Liberian upper class wearing hoop skirts and tails and tophats that look to be straight from a 1860 Alabama plantation. Weird as all get out.

Joan of Arc statue. Is Suber looking to take down the Maid or Orleans?
Would love to hear from one of these clowns as to how St. Joan is oppressive. Betting lots of "ums" and "uhs"

I've been to a ton of battlefields and I dont think I've ever seen anything like it, a real work of art.
*Shameless plug for the Museum Of the Confederacy on Camp across from the WW2 Museum. Survives on donations only and is one of two facilities in the country authorized to restore/repair unit battle flags.

I think some are pissed that her statue is in New Orleans and represents white culture and heritage and French colonialism.
Personally I think its a fine statue.
