The guy in the OP needed the nap he was provided with. He had worked all day at the office where he is the head of HR and was tired. He had followed work up by constructively managing his IRA for 2 hours and needed the nap provided. I am sure he is thankful.
The thin kid got either a broken ankle or leg when his leg hit the planter on the way down. He showed no signs of stopping the bullying and was, in fact, escalating it. The fat kid may have gone overboard. He may not have too. I don't think so.
An education was gained by all of those that attended both events.

It was absolutely the wrong reaction.
Morally it's indefensible.
the kid continued to hit him and ask for retaliation. the kid is kind of big, so probably slow to even throw a punch.. he used he size and strength to slam the guy.. how on earth are you really saying this? unless trolling? the guy had to defend himself. he was getting punched repeatedly. lol wrap him up an carry him to the principle.. get real. he'd probably tired of carrying him that far and who thinks of that when defending themselves..

- when you're that much bigger, you don't have to "take it" from a little guy, but you can't go around pile driving kids heads into the concrete either. There's a middle ground.
