the really southern areas didnt really even flood except in some low lying areas. Thats not what happened.

Where do you think the town of Lake Charles drains through?

How many old drain ditches, canals have been stopped up in the last 30 years with all the development south of town

Yeah no drainage system is designed to handle rates of more than 2" per hour for 5 hours.

It seems we are having 500 year rains far more often now in South LA.

Let me know when someone finds the weather records for Lake Charles for the last 1000 years.

the areas that flooded that previously hadnt? not many. most of LC drains into the bayous and rivers and lakes to run off to the Gulf.

and for those acting like this happens all the time in LC, it doesnt. This was the 3rd highest 24 hour rainfall total in its history. the 15" in 12 hours was bad enough, but close to 75% came in less than a 6 hour period.

No storm system is designed to handle that.

Everyone complains when these huge 100 year events happen but nobody wants to pay the high real estate cost. Well putting in drainage that can handle that type of storm would cost a pretty penny and drive RE prices even higher.

the city is not without fault though and needs to do a much better job across the city on enforcing the rules. the rules are fine, they just need to be enforced.

Is the back flow a danger like it was in 2016 or are the rivers at lower levels and that shouldn’t be a problem?

in swla the river was always high, but i dont expect back up, atleast not yet and the areas it does back up in a day or two are used to that type of flooding.

BR and Lafayette areas...i have no fricking clue.

She got way more to adopt then return to sender. If she had groupme back then, she might have gotten double. Never let an opportunity to take advantage of being a victim go to waste.

Not at all. This was a rainfall rate problem. It rained too fast to be able to drain.

Not going to be a problem except for low lying areas along the major rivers. 2016 was 32" of rain over 72 hours over a much broader area north of town. That slug of water had to come down the Amite, which created backwater flooding. This was much higher intensity (10-12" in 6 hours) in a much smaller area flooding local drainage systems and laterals of the Amite.

I've been reading back, and I just want to say that I've never seen Duke advise birth control in a weather thread before last night.

She truly is a vile little beggar bitch. What she did to that poor boy can’t be forgiven.

And at every turn she exploits people.

Probably the only good news here is that the rivers are Ok for now and the water has someplace to go.

This was a high concentration of rain in one area and the local drainage system was overwhelmed. Kind of the opposite of what happened in 2016.

As another poster stated we got close to 100 yr storm rates in 5-6 hours (versus 24 hours).

Thanks for all the answers, was concerned at the water level this morning comparing it to pictures from the first day of 2016 flooding.
