The NFL announced on Thanksgiving that the Super Bowl LIX pre-game telecast will spotlight singers and musicians from New Orleans and Louisiana.

Jon Batiste, who grew up in Kenner and attended St. Augustine High School and the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts, will sing the national anthem in the Caesars Superdome ahead of kickoff on Feb. 9.

Troy "Trombone Shorty" Andrews, who grew up in Treme, will team up with contemporary Christian singer and Lafayette native Lauren Daigle to perform "America the Beautiful." They have previously made guest appearances with one another onstage and on recordings.

And contemporary R&B singer Ledisi, who was born and raised in New Orleans before moving to California, will perform "Lift Every Voice and Sing."

“We’re honored to work with this year’s pregame lineup to celebrate the rich musical legacy of New Orleans and the entire state,” said Seth Dudowsky, head of music at the NFL, in a news release. "The Super Bowl is a rare moment to unite fans around the world, and this year’s performers will bring the energy, soul and vibrant sounds of the region to a global stage, as we kickoff Super Bowl LIX with a celebration to remember.”

And yet, nothing confirmed about anyone from Cash Money making an appearance.

Sounds like the backlash to no Lil Wayne or cash money made some waves at NFL HQ.

I actually think Jon batiste and the trombone shorty / Lauren Daigle moves are really nice.

Was watching/listening to some CW gal at halftime of the Cowboys game. CW music has never been much to my liking, though I enjoyed the likes of Johhny Paycheck and the many of the greats before him.

My sense is this - it all sounds the same nowadays - are there truly many unique voices among that group of performers?

John Batiste can be thoroughly entertaining. Can play a keyboard.

I saw Trombone Shorty at a Red Hot Chili Peppers concert in New Orleans. He opened up for them and was really good. Then they played Give it Away for the last song and he (shorty) came out and it was a pretty good performance.

I have heard some of Lauren Daigle's music, but when I was at a family event today and this was being talked about there were several people excited about it and evidently huge fans of hers.

When Juvenile was talking about how he thought it was an insult to not get a New Orleans artist to do the halftime show he did mention that would have allowed the collaboration of different cultures to be brought together.

I do think its kind of shitty that when the SB was in L.A. they got Dr Dre & Snoop to do the HT show and they brought out several different rappers and they did a whole L.A. theme, then it comes to New Orleans.... And if there is one city you would have people from the city its going to be in, it would be New Orleans.. Instead they have a dude from L.A. who performed when it was in L.A.

I don’t anything about him. Does he have a strong voice that can carry the National Anthem properly?

Trombone shorty is badass. Really unique sound that is definitely new Orleans. Puts on a hell of a show too. He doesn't have the name recognition but would put on a hell of a halftime show if given the opportunity.
