Are you a pastor or a lawyer that has to go in front of a judge? Are you a cheesy salesman that HAS to wear a suit?

What's the downside to wearing a suit?

Timely question, as I was about to post something similar.

Have an interview coming up and internal recruiter said that they are business casual, and I can feel free to dress comfortable.

I've never NOT worn a suit to an interview...just always seemed like the right thing to do.

Wasn't going to wear a suit (after recruiter said that), but was thinking about button down / tie, but this thread is making me 2nd guess.

Had an interview last week and the email they sent said “business casual”. This is the exact outfit I went with. Nailed the interview and got a offer yesterday.

Suit day 1, feel them out during that interview. Slacks and a blazer or slacks and a pressed button up would be the next two days. Like someone else said, tie with no jackets screams appointment with your po later.

That isn’t business casual. But congrats on the offer.

it might also be a good chance for him to up his game a little just day to day moving forward. Go a half step up On his attire daily from here on out at work and throw in a jacket for the upper level interview might be the sweet spot.

This is pretty solid advice here.

internal interview

Just ask someone. When I had my first internal interview I asked the HR manager directly, what attire best fits this interview. She was very nice, recommended shirt and tie and no jacket, and I have been in that role for three years now.

I work in a MFG building but I am not on the floor.

I'd wear the same suit every day if its the only one that you have. Hell you can even wear the same white dress shirt. Just get 3 different ties and no one will no the wiser. Good luck.

Wear business casual, but throw on a sport coat or blazer.

There isn't one. No one has every missed out on being hired for a supervisory or management position because they overdressed for the interview.

If you're interviewing to work in a kitchen or at a cash register, then dress at least one step up from the current staff.

I only have one because I only have to wear a suit once or twice a year, if that. I'm not spending $500-$1000 for something I'll wear so infrequently.

I do have a nice blazer and a half dozen or so sport coats though.

As long as it's basic blue, grey, or black, I don't see a problem. If it's got a noticeable pattern then you need to get a basic suit.
