A little more info. The shooting occurred inside a liquor store in Chicago. The dead man is 19 y.o. and was shot multiple times and the shooter has yet to be found. West Garfield Park is considered the most dangerous community in Chicago and that's saying a lot.

I have a question for all the “there are laws” people. It is pretty clear that the current system is not working much of the time. So what if, in light of this, we just go with a common sense system? Don’t try to kill someone with a sucker punch, and you won’t get center massed.

Absolutely justified. How can he possibly know that loser won't follow him and attack him from behind again? I'd absolutely feel threatened as long as that guy is able to walk. It's unfortunate that he died though.

Cops don't go around randomly sucker punching people. Your scenario makes no sense.

...and the premise was changing roles(races) in the scenario. I just changed it to cop vs perp of a protected class

The lady got the frick out of there. She knew exactly what was about to happen. Fatty in the black shirt and hat was slow on the take, but he figured it out too, eventually.

That wasn't a sucker punch. Dude was clearly antagonizing the officer.

Does anybody have any confidence that justice would have been served to the sucker puncher by the justice system? Any confidence that the police would have even shown up?
