This is why cases are going up but not death rates or hospitalization rates. It’s already done the worst damage

Nope
You have no idea what illnesses I’ve had. I’ve been through more medically than I care to discuss. I don’t want to catch anything be it covid or a cold.
Why?
Not because I fear the illness itself but Because I have other people in my life and don’t want to unnecessarily impact them negatively by infecting them.

I've been saying this all along. If you factor in the CDC's estimate at the deathrate of 0.26% you get a number of around 46 million total cases now. I think that the deathrate might even be lower than that so that would mean more cases. We aren't going through a spike right now. We are just uncovering the mass amount of cases that have existed for months.

Thus isn't the flu.... the flu vaccine is not effective because of mutation. Doctors have already said this thing is pretty stable.

I'm no expert though, so things could have changed.
I remember reading a possibility of that with about 1 or 2 tests, but (with limited testing) most that have gotten EUA approval have seemed more likely to report false negative than false positive. FDA numbers show some reversed but usually both are still fairly high.
Hopkins may not update as often as it did on sensitivity and specificity numbers.

FDA page includes data about positive and negative predictive values and confidence levels on these. Shows more with higher sensitivity than specificity than I remembered in back May, but usually both are fairly high when that happens.

Some studies from South Korea suggest the antibodies may dissipate within months to even weeks of testing positive. The more mild the infection the more quickly levels dropped - especially among those who were asymptomatic.
Furthermore, there is no herd immunity to any other coronavirus known to infect humans. We get cold viruses ad infinitum.
We have no way of knowing how this will behave and whether there even could be herd immunity.
I think the best hope may be a vaccine with a measurable response that can be sustained even if it takes annual boosters. But truly, who the hell knows.

Yet there are many posters on this site, and only a small handful have had coronavirus.
If those numbers are accurate, a ton of posters on here would have had it. Although I guess it’s possible a bunch have and were asymptomatic. Although there are a lot of posters here who aren’t spring chickens anymore, so it seems unlikely most everyone would be asymptomatic.

Pat Dye tested positive for the virus and he was asymptomatic. They found it completely by chance when he was in the hospital having his kidneys checked. The man was in his 80s.
