That's how my husband feels. I begged him to just get an automatic for his last one. He refused.

Smart move by him I guess...he doesn't have to worry about all the roadtrip miles on his jeep now. He knows I won't drive it so we just take mine now for any trips, so we can both take turns driving.

I don't really know how to change a tire. I mean....I was taught how to do it by my dad as well. But if you've never had to do it...you just kinda forget. I'm sure I could do it if I absolutely had to on my own.

You can learn how to do it in 30 seconds on a smartphone, or you can just call roadside assistance.

Even if my daughter knows how to change a flat tire, I'd still prefer she call roadside assistance.

I drive from Lafayette to New Orleans every weekend and the ride along HWY 90 is amazing... until I hit westwego.

This thread is hilarious.

I want to find out the % of Americans that know how to fully use a typewriter or a fax machine.

I hope this site is still around when driverless cars are the majority, so we can have the same thread.

Yes. 4wd 6spd standard.

Did you know they make jeep wranglers that are 2 wheel drive?

Seriously, who chooses a 2wd AUTO jeep wrangler that gets 14 MPG? I've seen them with a lift and mud tires.

FIFY.

No one who drives on Hwy 90 from Lafayette to New Orleans enjoys any part of that trip. Between construction from Lafayette to New Iberia, speed traps in Jeanerette and Patterson, an overpass that seriously tries to break your vehicle in Franklin, driving through Morgan City on an elevated road that enhances the ugliness of an old city, and sketchy troopers after every elevated section from Morgan City to Raceland, that is one of the most godforsaken stretches of highway in this state, which is really saying something.

90% of automobiles on the market are automatic. What is your point?

Ok, even my automatic Sahara is a 4WD

Now do I know how to use it by myself without some guidance....that's a different story

I've used it when we were offroading on mountain trails for camping/hiking....each time my husband had to remind me how to use it.

Stick shifts are fun but they suck in stop and go city traffic.

True story - the manual with which I learned to drive had some sort of issue with the connection between the gear stick and the actual housing under the floorboard. At some point it eventually broke and you could wiggle it a bit and pull the entire gear stick out of the floor with the boot still attached. My dad joked it was his anti-theft device, but more than once I pulled it out of the floor while shifting from 1st to 2nd and it wasn't very funny. Eventually I just started in 2nd gear regardless.

On my 3rd MT Wrangler (YJ,TJ,JK). This is a big argument among the JK community, AT or MT.

Seriously though, there are legit reasons to have an automatic

1. Leg/knee issues
2. Old age
3. Low-T
4. Have a vagina

No clue what you're talking about.

Some refer to it as Morgan Shitty. I'll give you that one.

Nope. My jeep feels like a shuttle taking off if I push it past 75mph. The tires have the speedometer off so I usually hit cruise control at 74 in the right hand lane and enjoy the smell of burnt sugar cane for 90 min.

It sure as hell beats sitting on the basin.

Want your mind to be blown?

In most of our lifetimes there will be a huge chunk of the population who won't even know how to drive.

Autonomous vehicles will be the norm and "cars as a service" will take over instead of outright owning a car. Why own a car when you can press a button on your phone and have one there in minutes? Why even bother to drive it when software can do it for you?

Rock crawling is easier in an auto. You can get used to a manual just fine but an auto is definitely easier. That said I still love manuals.
